Barcelona brothers José and David Muñoz are at the top of the class of young, world-music-oriented musicians who have taken the centuries-old flamenco genre into new musical realms. On their second major-label recording (after 2001's self-titled Estopa), they perfect their riveting and rousing blend of rock, Caribbean, and Spanish styles. They mix Cuban backbeats with flamenco on the festive "Vino Tinto," and imbue "Jardin del Olvido" with a Texas-twanged country vibe. "El Blade," a new version of a track entitled "La Raja de Tu Falda," cuts like a hip-hop-honed knife, while "Te Vi Te Vi" rings with gypsy-fied vocal strains and "Nasio Pa la Alegria" rolls with a reggae-friendly bounce. Estopa sing about love, food, sin, and sex. It is, after all, a rock band, but with sabor. Eugene Holley, Jr.

4.0 out of 5 stars Muy diferente y bueno, August 9, 2002

FULANO DE TAL (Gringolandia, Aztlan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Destrangis (Audio CD)

Not too crazy about 2 or 3 songs in particular Jardin del Olvido and Ke Pasa, appears as if they ran out of ideas with those two but over all the rest of the album is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly enjoyable CD!, October 12, 2003

A bit of tradition intertwined with popular rock style, is what characterizes this CD. It is modern and hip, and includes lirics that go far from being common. Although the interpreters are young, they have managed to create great music with the spirit of the flamenco background. I should also suggest, their first album "Estopa", and their extended version of Destrangis - Which is called "Mas de estrangis", that includes songs that where performed in concert. By the way, does Sinatra ring a bell?
