A fun, upbeat, and very electronic take on nostalgia,
By
This review is from: Destroy All Humans (Audio CD)
Contrary to what another reviewer stated, this album is very enjoyable, in a mildly twisted--but very catchy--way. It contains a wide variety of tracks in terms of overall style, separated by short audio sketches (under 25 seconds each) which often directly relate to the game after which this album is named. These lead-in tracks help make the otherwise eclectic album easier to handle in a single session, smoothly passing from the JunkieXL's slick and elegant remixes and originals to Timo Maas' faster paced "Help Me" (which has some fantastic vocals working with the hybrid electronic/brass backing), to Meat Beat Manifesto's grungy, noise-heavy tracks. This album will never appeal to everyone. On top of this, it is the Soundtrack, *NOT* the Score, and as such, it largely contains "Inspired by" works. "Destroy All Humans" is an excellent compilation of tracks which otherwise boost the Scifi-retro atmosphere of the game. Do not make the mistake of assuming it will come with the game's score. Just read the track list and you'll see for yourself. I don't like Techno, and I don't like Dance, House, or Club music. But this ain't any of those, and I love it. (It's also a album for any JunkieXL fan.)

Not the score, but fun theme album.,

I was originally looking for an CD of Garry Schyman's wonderful score for "Destroy All Humans". Well this isn't it, but I decided to order it anyway and am so glad I did. It's a fun and well done album, a nice mix of music that loosely follows the theme, interspersed with comical/ironic comments from a "radio announcer". Alot of the music has a 50's/60's flavor to it. Good fun. P.S. Would still like to see an album of Garry Schyman's "Destroy All Humans" music only, but until then am enjoying this CD.

Not the real game soundtrack,

I love the game "Destroy All Humans" and I love the original and appropriately retro score by Garry Schyman. This CD is NOT that score! Oh, there's a clip here and there of Schyman's excellent homage to 1950's sci-fi music, but it's been stomped on all over by already dated hip-hop beats. Why did they do this? If you loved the music so much that you wanted to purchase a CD of a soundtrack from a video game, then you want THE SOUNDTRACK. If you want a typical house music hip-hop CD then you'll probably look elsewhere anyway. Sure is a shame. Garry Schyman's score deserves a real soundtrack CD. The this would have been 0 stars if not for the few clips of Schyman's score.
