Book Description

Mila Voss is dead.

That’s what the team hired to terminate her had reported, and that’s how her file had been marked.

Dead. Six years now.

So why did she suddenly show up on a hotel’s security camera in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania? Those who’d paid for her elimination are more than a little curious.

One person should know what happened—Jonathan Quinn, one of the best cleaners in the business, the man who’d been tasked with the disposal of her body.

Only Quinn isn’t exactly easy to get ahold of these days, and he may not be willing to share the answer.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Shocking Coverup That Just Won't Stay Covered March 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Many people will wonder at the premise to all of the Jonathan Quinn books - and how a writer is able to create fast-paced suspense out of a "cleaner" whose primary job is cleaning up whatever mess is made by assassins. Yet, each time, Brett Battles delivers excitement, intrigue and tension, in spades. In "The Destroyed" we are thrust right into the midst of a conflict from the start: someone who was killed a while ago has suddenly resurrected. Someone Quinn had "cleaned". Yet here she is, still breathing, and apparently still in need of an assassin's bullet. Enter Quinn. Or rather, enter Nate, Quinn's former apprentice, now a full fledged cleaner himself.

There is a lot of character development that has gone on since the last Quinn book, and we get to see the results of that in this one. Quinn is not just the silent and determined two-dimensional person he could have been, in less imaginative hands. He's dealing with the pain and doubts that resulted from his last adventure. Nate now has the determination and deliberate focus that we're used to seeing in his mentor. The mysterious and lovely Orlando is back, as is one new character - I won't tell you about this one. The reader should discover this one for him or herself.

Having read this book through, I'm satisfied yet want more, and am looking forward to the next instalment. Oh, and as usual - Battles has built this novel such that it works quite well as a standalone. So if you haven't read the others, you won't be lost - although be warned, because after reading this one, you'll want to grab them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fantastic Quinn Novel March 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I've been a huge fan of Battles' Quinn series from the beginning, and THE DESTROYED does not disappoint: it's a riveting thriller that zips from Rome to Vegas to DC. It was so nice to settle in again with some of my favorite characters from fiction, in addition to a few notable new additions. Not to be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read in a great series March 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
When I read The Cleaner, I really enjoyed it--a new twist in a suspense setting. I wondered, though, how the character would grow and whether the uniqueness of stories about a "cleaner" would wear off. The Destroyed is proof that good characters, fast pace, and good plot will always succeed. The latest installlment in this series may be the best. Familiar characters,, but different roles to some degree as the apprentice becomes a full-fledged player in his own right. Emotional struggles, flashbacks working well with the present day episodes, action, well, pretty much everything I would hope to find in a good book. This was one very enjoyable read. My only regret is that once I started it, I could not put it down, so I finished it in one sitting. Now I have to wait for the next Quinn book. Definitely recommended by The Mystery Bookstore.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read.
Carries on the style, wit and drama of this earlier books. Battles keeps it moving but seem to have a difficult time giving us one hero to root for.
