5.0 out of 5 stars This CD defines "Jamming", June 8, 2006
This review is from: Destroyer (Audio CD)
A friend gave me a boot of this a few years ago when it was out of print. I listened to it and thought it was OK, then put it away. About a year later I dug it back out and gave it another listen. I don't know how I missed the genius of it the first time, but it's been in constant rotation since.

It's an incredibly sweet blenderization of funk, latin, rock, hip-hop, and heavy metal. Standout songs are Beatomatic (If you ever wondered what happened to Batman and Robin), Dizzy Stick (my favorite euphemism), and Karmasutra. The song HEB is a hilariously happening romp through the aisles of that favorite Texas grocery chain, moving from barely sung vocals to screamo vocals with crunching metal guitars.

Overall, if you like a sweet horn section with a good funk bass line, you'll like this CD. (Especially the instrumental "Fernie's Groove".) Pure, raw, and primal. Note that it's not for the wee folk as the lyrics also fall into the raw and primal arena.

I'm totally stoked to see that other Scabs CDs are available now.

Wow. A friend of mine got me into The Scabs, he's from Austin so he knew all about them. I'm so glad I took his advice and bought this disc, its really great. A Mix of funk, rock, jazz and latin that seamlessly flows like no other fusion I've heard before. Bob Schneider Is a favorite of mine and he definitley leaves his mark on this album. Check it out!
