5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most important gothic bands ever, October 7, 2011
By
Chongo (planet earth) - See all my reviews
Australia's Ikon have been at the forefront of hard hitting alternative & darkwave music since 1991 & Dino Molinaro together w/ Chris McCarter have been writing music since 1988. While being one of the standout & surviving gothic bands of the 90's, Ikon's music was often compared heavily to bands like Joy Division, New Order, & Death in June but this Australian duo have more than attained a musical direction & strong body of work that's all their own. While genres come & go & scenes tend to stagnate or just become too limiting, Ikon's powerful lyricism & evocative music continues to inspire & ultimately gain new fans w/ each release. I think after the departure of their original vocalist Michael Carrodus & the release of the groundbreaking "This Quiet Earth", Ikon moved towards more experimental waters that have progressed their music tremendously along w/ their knack for strong solid song writing. "Destroying the World to Save it" continues Ikon's reign of gothic majesty & their mash up of new wave & post punk tendencies fit nicely w/ their more dark folk influences. These guys should be huge.
