This portable hand vac worked quite well considering I had my doubts about it capabilities. I started off by using it on smaller, light pieces such as cat fur and small dust bunnies. It worked like a charm. Then it was onto medium sized and moderately heavier pieces like food crumbs (due to eating crackers and pretzels in bed). My bed was more comfortable that evening. Finally I tested it on pieces of glass, (after accidently dropping one on the floor). Well, I must say that this "little devil" really pulled (sucked) it's own weight !! I'm so pleased with it that I'm buying another to keep in my car. The only con that this product has is its built-in dust cup which needs emptying frequently enough for it to be somewhat of a nuisance. All in all, I say it's worth its value. Heck, I've spent my money on worst things!! I like this product very much and have told my friends and family about it.

* NOTE* In the video I mention that you "See" the Dirt Devil Detailer scaring my animals. I decided to edit that part out of the review - Our cat came in the room during filming and became a bit jumpy when I turned the Detailer on.

Things that we enjoy about the Dirt Devil Detailer

- Nice and compact
- Recharging base
- Brush attachment is ideal for cleaning keyboards

Areas for improvement

- As others have mentioned it is limited by its power. Will not be effective for anything other than small jobs
- A little loud for its size

Final Verdict - Not bad for small jobs - like cleaning the vents in your car or vacuuming up the crumbs on your keyboard. However, for any job that is larger you will need a more powerful option.

I was suprised to see this little guy picks up everything you throw its way. I have tried other so called "computer vacuums" that don't work at all. However this one works well. As well as being powerful it is easy to clean and you see the results as you work. With the see through dirt collection chamber you can visually see the results of your labor. This piece is easy to detach and dump into your closest trash can. Overall this is a superior product in its class.

Cons:
Initial charging - 24 hrs. according to manual. (Do this to maximize battery performance)

Uses Ni-cd rechargeable battery like old cellphones, you have to drain battery completely before charging to prolong battery life.

You have to press & hold power button to use vacuum. Dirt Devil should replace this with those rubberized push buttons like some flashlights have.

I am amazed by the dizzying array of people that think this is going to be the end all be all of vacuums. By definition this hand vac is a DETAILER, in other words it's made to pick up those tiny messes that don't warrant taking out the huge corded vacuum. Even most cordless hand vacs these days weigh a good 5 pounds, not to mention are more than a foot long. This neat little vac is no more than 8 or 9 inches long and fits snuggly in your hand. It's hands down the most comfortable hand vac I've used.

IDEAL FOR: desktop crumbs, loose dust, and hair. I also used it to clean the filters on the front of my computer and PS3 with the aid of the included brush tool. In about 5 minutes I picked up enough dirt and hair to fill the cup on it, which was a lot. It cleaned my entire desk and entertainment center before I needed to empty it which is also very quick and easy. Unlike most other cordless vacs the battery lasts longer than 10 minutes and it comes with a nice wall charger.

NOT MADE FOR: anything larger than a pea size, thats as big as the nozzle is. I found that it had a hard time with large dust balls and hairs longer than 4 inches. This is understandable again given it's small size. The low power and small size also mean low suction. I found it great for loose dust and hair but not for stuck on dust and grime. It should be noted not even my corded vac gets the stuck on stuff up, you need a damp rag for that.

In closing this is if nothing else a neat little gadget that will also clean you're desk nicely. I like the fact that it's low suction and small nozzle cuts down on the risk of sucking up my papers, pens, and other important items like my tornado corded vac would. This will certainly have it's place at my desk for years to come.

Don't give this item low stars due to your own preconceptions of what it SHOULD do, rate it for what it is made for.

I bought this for cleaning my electronic products since regular vacuums can damage equipment. It does it's job for removing dust from my laptop, though that's all it's good for. Don't expect this to pick up anything else other than small crumbs and dust. I would've given this a 4 star, but I have one gripe, that is charging this unit as you don't know for sure when the charge is complete (I left this to charge for over a day and the red light was still on). This is only recommended for cleaning laptops, computers and any other equipment that collects dust.

the only pro with this vac is that it is handy and cordless.
It does pick up small dust bunnies ok but anything heavier
and you are out of luck. Very low suction. I think this is
due to the filter.

some times i laugh at my own ideas of how a vacum this small would suck dirt glued to my keyboard with food protien. this little bugger works as well as can be expected, but not as well as maybe a cleaner lifestyle would . buy it and try it

It worked well enough. However, if you drop it, it will self-destruct with no possible hope for reassambly.

I'm not entirely sure what this is meant to pick up (it was a gift), but I've been using it to vacuum areas of about a square foot that are covered with so much dust the carpet is visibly grey--the lovely surprises you find when moving furniture. It picks it up pretty well, and fits neatly into the charger. It's fairly comfortable in the hand; the only aspect of this product that's displeasing is that the storage space is somewhat awkward. You take part of it off, and then you have to scrape the dust off the outside of a bag made of the material of hospital scrubs. It's kind of strange. This is a pretty good product though.
