Fraud is Big Business. Americans lose billions of dollars annually from internal and external fraud. Ruth Brayer has written Detecting Forgery in Fraud Invesigation as a guide to assist investigators and security officers in preventing and detecting fraud.Ruth tells us that her guide consists of practical advice to save the investigator time and money. This book is packed with tips and ideas to assist the investigation of white collar crime. In fact, she gives 99 tips throughout the book. The book is well-illustrated with examples of various types of signatures. She introduces the investigator to the basic method of examining handwriting in order to identify similarities and differences in handwriting. This guide is valuable to document examiners and attorneys because Ruth covers suitable methods of handling a questioned document case from start to finish. Chapter 5 is titled How To Obtain Optimum Results and talks about obtaining the best exemplars. In Chapter 8, Ruth emphasizes teamwork as the best technique for bringing the case to a successful conclusion. Ruth covers evidence and legalities in Chapter 9. Ruth has an extensive appendix that includes methods of obtaining request and non-request writing, samples of reports and fee agreements. This review is from: Detecting Forgery in Fraud Investigations: The Insider's Guide (Paperback)
Detecting Forgery in Fraud Investigations is an effective guide for those requiring a basic understanding of the fundamentals involved in handwriting analysis. The book is organized to provide investigators, and others involved in determining the authenticity of handwriting, a practical approach to the issues involved in examining handwriting, including sample exercises.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in developing and using the knowledge they would gain by applying the principles of detecting forgeries Ms. Brayer provides in her book.
