4.0 out of 5 stars A "Myst" game for the younger crowd!
This is a more sophisticated game for young girls than the "Groovin" series or the "makeover" ones. Just like the adult mystery versions (like the ever-popular "Myst"), this game takes Barbie and you through a series of rooms in an old hotel and the grounds surrounding it, searching for clues as to where the missing jewels are hidden and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Detective Barbie 2: The Vacation Mystery
My 8 old daughter hates this game, she would rather play the younger game Princess Bride or Pet Rescue. The graphics are great and the music fine. The premise for the game is great, however she nor I could not figure out the game, the help screen was useless. She managed to get a few clues, but then couldn't get any farther with the game. She got frustrated, as well did...

4.0 out of 5 stars A "Myst" game for the younger crowd!, August 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Detective Barbie 2: Vacation Mystery (CD-ROM)
This is a more sophisticated game for young girls than the "Groovin" series or the "makeover" ones. Just like the adult mystery versions (like the ever-popular "Myst"), this game takes Barbie and you through a series of rooms in an old hotel and the grounds surrounding it, searching for clues as to where the missing jewels are hidden and who is also trying to find them before you do. (By the way, when you find your name and enter it in the beginning of the game, Barbie will "talk" to you throughout the journey!)------- My daughter, who is 7, found it difficult to move around at first. (I did too!) I also felt the instructions were a bit vague at to how to "gather" the clues. It took the two of us 45 minutes before we really got the concept of retrieving clues and what to do with them once we had collected them...I think Mattel could do a better job guiding us new detectives along!----- The story line is fun, the graphics are good, and the little side "games" that you can play help to break up the tension of always searching for the next clue!----- All in all, we both found this to be fun, but at times a bit frustrating. With a better "help" feature, I think it would keep things moving. If you like Barbie and you like interactive games, then I'm sure you will like this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Detective Barbie 2: Vacation Mystery, February 5, 2001

My daughter, who's six, loves playing this game. Initially, she needed me to assist her, but now she's very familiar with the features on her own and can play an hour by herself. The characters are interesting, the races are exciting, and the hunt for clues can be initially frustrating but eventually very rewarding. When you find a clue and it unearths another piece of the puzzle, then my daughter gets very excited. The overall design of the game, and the artwork involved, are very impressive. The feature where Barbie occasionally calls her "detective partner" by name is a cool feature. I love the scenes where she taps her toes and meditates on her clues. Becky's crime computer is a nice feature to assist in analyzing the clues. Heck, we even like the music!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good game, but terrible navigation, May 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Detective Barbie 2: Vacation Mystery (CD-ROM)
This game was a lot of fun for my 5-year-old...but I had to play it with her because the navigation was terrible. On the one hand, she's bumping into objects because it isn't smart enough to just have her walk around items (this is for children, after all!). And yet at other times, it is so sensitive that it keeps kicking her out of rooms and locations because you've gone too close to the edge of the screen.

She got frustrated, as well did I. Maybe we got a 'bad' disk, but no-one will help us. I'll wait a few years and buy her the Nancy Drew series.

I have the Barbie Detective 1: The Carnival Mystery and I LOVE it! I can't wait to get the new one: Barbie Detective 2: The Vacation Mystery. I adore playing it! It has different clues and a different criminal everytime! It's such a fun and enjoyable game. You move Barbie, gather clues, and play fun carnival games. You move around the carnival trying to find Ken, who kidnapped Ken, and the carnival money. It's a great game and I can't wait until I get my hands on the second one!

4.0 out of 5 stars An Entertaining Game, December 15, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Detective Barbie 2: Vacation Mystery (CD-ROM)
Barbie Detective 2 is basically the same style as the first one, but with a different setting, a new mystery, new suspects, and this time Ken helps to solve the mystery in a way too! However, it is a little bit more challenging then the first one and it took me about an hour to figure out, even with the user's guide. Plus, Barbie is still the slow turtle she was in the first one!! Does she even know how to run?! The bottem line is that it is a fun and challenging game, but maybe to difficult for kids age 5 and under.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed, October 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Detective Barbie 2: Vacation Mystery (CD-ROM)
This game was hard for me to figure out more or less my daughter. I can get half way through it then I get stuck. The only way my daughter can play it is if I'm right there helping her. The graphics and sound are nice but thats about it. The Help screen is useless. I don't recomend this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars A disappointed little girl...., June 10, 2004

Why in the world would they still be selling software that only runs on a 16-bit architecture? At least, they should make an upgrade available. Who even looks at that stuff anymore? You just expect the software to run, but if you have a computer purchased in this CENTURY, this won't run. What a disappointed little girl I have.
