Short and sweet...if you are a fan of the Detective Series of films, from the 1930's and 1940's. Try to pick-up this book. You won't find none better on the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Informative and Analytical, September 14, 2011
This review is from: The Detective in Hollywood: The Movie Careers of the Great Fictional Private Eyes and Their Creators (Hardcover)
This is a nonfiction book that covers detectives in Hollywood films of the 1930s and 1940s mainly. The author writes in a very readable style and gives a LOT of information on the fictional detective and the film. One thing I liked in particular is that if the film character is based on a book character (as was often the case), Jon Tuska analyzes the book character and the author, and then discusses the film character and what the differences are. Very informative.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, October 31, 2011
This review is from: The Detective in Hollywood: The Movie Careers of the Great Fictional Private Eyes and Their Creators (Hardcover)
This is far and above the best book I've ever read on detectives in films during the studio years. Jon Tuska is a wonderful writer and the book is extremely well researched. Ir helps that the author loves his subject matter. For fans of movie detectives (and of old films in general) this is book is indispensible.
