Editorial Reviews

(In Italian with English Subtitles) - Murder, betrayal, office politics, temptation... it's all in a day's work for Detective Salvo Montalbano. The series is filmed in the ancient, sun-washed Sicilian city of Ragusa, and is based on the international best-selling mystery novels by Andrea Camilleri.
Episode 25: A Voice in the Night - A theft at a supermarket controlled by a Mafia family... and the Mafia inspires fear, especially when it s allied with politics. Montalbano finds himself having to trap the guilty using even more unconventional methods. This time he does something he'd never done before, at least up to now. But when your adversaries aren t following the rules, you re authorized to break them yourself. In the end what counts is just solving the case, at least until the next homicide.
Episode 26: A Ray of Light - Thousands of Tunisians are fleeing their homeland for Sicily and at the same time a great number of robberies have started. To Montalbano, the connections between the refugees and the robberies sounds contradictory. Running parallel to two robbery cases is another case linked to arms dealers. During the investigations it becomes increasingly clear that the three men involved are not terrorists, but were trying to get weapons to the rebels fighting against dictatorship in Tunisia.

The Montalbano series is addictive so be warned! Everything about this detective show is outstanding. Luca Zingaretti plays the part perfectly, dealing with a corrupt system and half trained subordinates. The stories are original, the actors are exceptional in their roles and the Sicilian scenery is always interesting. Highly recommended.

For viewers who have followed the entire Montalbano series, Episode 26 is a must-see. This is one of the best, weaving together multiple story lines from previous episodes and culminating in a particularly powerful ending. Of course, Fazio, Augella and Catarella are all present and do their parts in creating a lot of smiles along the way. I hope there will be more to come.

Luca Zingaretti is BACK on his game. I had watched all of them and the previous two, Episodes 23 and 24 were really disappointing. I almost didn't purchase these new ones. I'm glad I did. They're excellent. Good stories, well acted. Detective Montalbano continues to be a great character worth following. The ending left room for future interesting stories. The only thing I miss is the change in his girlfriend. Liked the previous one much better.

I like the ensemble of characters very much, and the stories are engaging as well. Another helpful way for me to practice listening to spoken Italian.

So nice to get new Montalbano shows. I've read all the novels (that have been translated) and even got the original shows from Australia when they first came out. The acting is great and the writers do a great job of staying with the story as the author wrote. I've seen the DVDs many times and never get tired of these stories.

Montalbano needs no reviewing. If you have seen one, you will want to savor every one and hope for more. If only Camillieri will write more. One hope Camillieri will not stop here.

luca zingaretti is salvo. loved loved this series. so sad that there are no more. but perhaps, who knows maybe they are not done yet. the ending just crushed me. no spoiler alerts here. if u have been following the series u know what i mean. ck out interview with luca on youtube. so personable, and genuine, with a deep understanding of leon's character. i have watched the entire series several times, and it never gets old. enjoy
