3.0 out of 5 stars Actual Dethalbum: Deluxe Edition Review
Let's make this clear, I love Dethklok. I also love Metal. With that being said, it is only fair to review this as an album from the "band" Dethklok rather than to glorify the great series which it is. This review will target only the contents of the album and not the Adult Swim show.

When "Dethalbum" was released, this deluxe edtiion was almost nowhere to be found. The demand had been underestimated and for several weeks following it's release, this CD could not be obtained unless you were willing to pay $100 from one of the bloodsuckers who managed to snag one on release day. I was not. In spite of this difficulty, "Dethalbum" became the highest charting death metal album of all time. That, my friends, is impressive, particularly for a band that doesn't really exist.

Fans of bands like of Arch Enemy, Cannibal Corpse, and Slayer will eat this album up even if they haven't seen Metalocalypse, the show that this CD serves as a soundtrack for. "Go Into the Water", "Fansong", and "Awaken" remain my favorites along with "Dethharmonic" which I specifically mention in the review. "Thunderhorse" (which was featured in the video game "Guitar Hero 2"), "Go Forth and Die", and some of the others are still great, but they worked better with the visuals accompanying them on the show. All in all, an awesome album that is only held back by the fact that the half-a$zed deluxe edition content seems like a rip-off in hindsight.

4 1/2 stars, rounded down in the spirit of brutality!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Trouble, September 28, 2007
This review is from: The Dethalbum (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (Audio CD)
I was rather disappointed when Amazon informed me that they couldn't get me a copy, and even more upset when I discovered that no online stores seemed to have the deluxe edition in stock. Yesterday my girlfriend found the deluxe edition on the shelf at Hot Topic, and I've heard from others that stores have copies on their shelves, so I'm rather confused as to why nobody has it available online.

As for the album itself, it was definitely worth the trouble. I've been incredibly disappointed with metal albums for the last few years, but this one is incredible. It's rather sad that Brendon Small can throw something together that blows the "serious" metal bands out of the water.

My favorite track has got to be Kill You off of the bonus disc. I'd love for Pickel's to do his own solo album :)

In short the album is brutal and I highly recommend it. Hopefully Dethklok will be around for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than most real bands!, September 25, 2007
By
This review is from: The Dethalbum (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (Audio CD)
For an album from a group of cartoon musicians, this thing succeeds where many metal albums fail. It's almost sad that something that's best described as Spinal Tap meets Slayer, does a better job with metal than some actual metal bands. This album rocks hard. The music ranges from just in your face brutal to melodic and really cranks up the speed on some songs. "Go Into The Water", "Thunderhorse", and "Dethharmonic" showcase the best of what this album has to offer, but no song really disappoints. And the extra songs on this Deluxe Edition actually make it worth picking up. Alot of musicians like to just slap an extra CD in and call it "Special" or "Deluxe". Not the case here, the songs on disc 2 live up to and in the case of "Blood Ocean" possibly surpass the material on the disc 1. Yeah, maybe they could have just put all the songs on the album so those who can't find the Deluxe Edition don't feel they're missing out. But since this review is about the Deluxe Edition, it's a moot point. If you like metal, add this to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS HERE!!!!, September 30, 2007
This review is from: The Dethalbum (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (Audio CD)
I know it's messed up that this deluxe version isn't available anywhere but I can't believe the balls on these people trying to sell this album seriously for this amount. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE THING FROM iTUNES FOR $12!!!
It's amazing that these people think they can get away with this. The dumb thing is that they had a copy on here for $100 the other day which seems to have been bought already. I'm sure the CD itself is a collectors item already but who's to say it won't be available again?

3.0 out of 5 stars Actual Dethalbum: Deluxe Edition Review, October 11, 2007
This review is from: The Dethalbum (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (Audio CD)
Let's make this clear, I love Dethklok. I also love Metal. With that being said, it is only fair to review this as an album from the "band" Dethklok rather than to glorify the great series which it is. This review will target only the contents of the album and not the Adult Swim show.

The Dethalbum: Deluxe Edition is a rare find. I ordered mine direct from the manufacturer and STILL had problems getting my copy! What relief when three weeks later I receive my deluxe copy. As most know, the Dethalbum features full/reworked songs from the show rather than the "fade out clips" from the show. The overall result is sadly a mixed bag, some great songs like Birthday Deathday and Fansong seem slower and muddier, while Thunderhorse and Awaken are pure excellence.

Many of the album's song are surprisingly slow in the guitar department, while the drums are pounding and unrelenting. Nathan's voice is overall awesome, but some songs are either ruined by his voice/lyrics (Face Fisted, Go Forth, Murdertrain) or guitar (Fansong, Murmaider). The solos are pretty cool, especially the slightly retooled Duncan Hills and Thunderhorse. Go into the Water has an epic riff that is pure classic!

The Deluxe edition, despite it's glamor, is really a joke, only 3 (or 4) of the 7 "songs" can be taken seriously, with Murdertrain having many voices in the background which were not present in the previous disc, which distract the song, which really isn't that great to begin with. Blood Ocean is promising but becomes uninteresting rather quickly. Pickles Intro is simply a skit where Nathan asks Pickles to sing the next song, a Snakes n Barrels song "Kill You", a silly 80s rock song with a girly voiced Pickles singing. It's alright but WAY out of place, although rather humorous...and catchy...lol. Hatredy is another favorite of mine that was slowed down from it's original incarnation. It is still cool but why is it so slow? Dethklok gets in Tune is a...I'm sorry, a not very funny skit where the band helps Skwisgar tune his guitar. The extras on this disc include the video for Bloodrocuted (which is available online) and the first episode of season two (which will be available next year on DVD). What bonuses! /sarcasm

Songs such as "Crush your Battle Opponent's Balls", "Inner Child Tied and Beaten...", "Underwater Friends" and "I'm Just a Rock n Roll Clown" would have been great additions on the deluxe disc. With only 5 actual songs, it's a shame because it's not really worth the trouble just for the classic, Duncan Hills or Blood Ocean and Hatredy, but all Dethklok fans will get this version anyways.

Overall, my review was critical, but I was hoping for something more than what I got. The Dethalbum was somewhat slow, repetitive, lacked most of the show's humor and missed some great songs in place of unnecessary or sub par efforts. I can't say this album stacks up against actual releases of the year either, unlike what many are saying. Perhaps I'm wanting to much from this album and looking beyond the comedic value. Consider this though, should a full album from any band be viewed as a joke or a piece of music?

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome album, be patient, September 30, 2007
This review is from: The Dethalbum (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (Audio CD)
Hello Dethklok fans, this is an illusive album is it not? Not even released for a whole week and no where to be found, in stores or online. I myself do not own a copy of it. What I do have is a burnt copy that a friend made for me, I've been listening to it for the last 2 days and its awesome. But I do plan on buying the Deluxe edition as soon as its available again, the burnt disc is just to hold me over til then. I spoke to a guy at FYE who told me they should get some copies of it Tuesday, hopefully. The manager there also told me the limited quantity wasn't because there were so little made but because so few were ordered. No one thought this album would do so well so they didn't order that many, think about it how often do metal albums sell out they way this one did? I've never heard of it in my life. So I think I can say with confidence that if we wait a while there should be more on the way. I mean when it all comes down to it these people want our money, so why not make more of the edition people want when its in such high demand?

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't take it out on Dethklok!--Also, buy it at Hot Topic!, September 27, 2007
This review is from: The Dethalbum (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (Audio CD)
I keep seeing people with reviews giving this at one star, stating that though they are are huge fans of Dethklok or Metalocalypse they couldn't attain the CD. Their reasoning being that they don't have the CD, that their preorder was not fulfilled.

What are you, on glue? That's no way to run a review OR a rating. You have to have at least heard the songs on the CD to actually review it. And . . . wait for it--If you're a fan of Metalocalypse, you HAVE heard the songs! So why are you giving it a one star review? On the basis that it somehow will make Amazon pay for giving you a preorder and not fulfilling their promise? Send a letter, complain to Amazon, but for god's sake don't take it out on Dethklok! You're only hurting Dethklok (Brendan Small, Metalocalypse, whatever) by giving it a bad review just because YOU don't own it. It's not THEIR fault, THEY'RE not the ones who suck. Okay? Someone dropped the ball, I agree. It wasn't Brendan Small and Gene Hoglan though, they just made awesome music.

That said, we can get to the actual review. Okay, the CD rocks. There. Simple, right? Rocks harder than a great many metal bands, though their songs are in direct contrast to MOST other metal band such as Cannibal Corpse, Dragonforce, Opeth, etc. whose songs mostly reach well above 5 mins. The average Dethklok song is about 3 mins. I would say the metal band Dethklok most closely resembles is Storm Troopers of Death. Their short songs, funny lyrics, and yet still amazing sound make them practically brothers. My personal favorite is Murdertrain A'comin.

Last thing: DON'T, I repeat, DON'T buy the $250+ CDs for sale here on Amazon. Someone is trying to rape you, and if you do buy that you will be raped. It won't somehow make you a better fan if you spend the 250 bucks, it'll make you a rube. It won't go to the people it truly should go to: the makers of the album.

If you really want to spend 250 bucks on the deluxe CD, here's what you do: Wait until there's an abundance of them, then buy 10 of them.

The last thing I must add, those of you complaining about problems attaining it in hard copy, Go to your nearest Hot Topic. They will most likely have a copy. That's where I bought mine. They are one of the few stores to get multiple copies of the deluxe editions, somehow. Or, like I said, wait until they're in abundance at your local Bestbuy.

5.0 out of 5 stars METAL!!!!!!, September 27, 2007
This review is from: The Dethalbum (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (Audio CD)
Dethklok could perhaps be the ultimate metal band of all time. Brendon Small, creator of such TV shows as "Home Movies", has really outdone himself with the first season of "Metalocalypse" and this Dethklok CD, where he plays all of the instruments (excluding drums by Strapping Young Lad's Gene Hoglan) and does all of the vocals himself, a truly brutal one-man band.

"The Dethalbum" is a prime example of metal at its best. Having such epic jams as "Murmaider", "Go Into The Water", and "Thunderhorse" (which appeared in the game "Guitar Hero II" for PS2 and Xbox 360), while also including the louad, heavy, head-banging tunes in songs such as "Awaken", "Better Metal Snake", and "Hatredcopter".

This Deluxe Edition 2-Disk set is great for fans of the show, including sound bites and other Dethklok songs that appeared in the show, such as "Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle" and "Hatredy". This also comes with the rockin' music video for "Bloodrecuted".

I haven't heard an album this good since Arch Enemy's "Doomsday Machine". I highly recommend this album for fans of the show or fans of metal in general.

Dethklok rules!

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY..., November 7, 2007
This review is from: The Dethalbum (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (Audio CD)
So I had to wait quite some time to get this version of the album, but I'm glad I was so patient. I pity the people that purchased them for 60 all the way up to almost 300 dollars from the scalpers. This version is awesome, I'm very glad I spent the extra to get the Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle and others!!!! Dethklok Rules! Yes, I know, they're not "real" metal, but for being one guy doing everything but the drums it's really well done. I would say that "Go Into the Water" and "Bloodrocuted" are my favorites. The recording is good quality, always a bit of a concern with independent records. Includes lyrics for everything except the coffee jingle and the Deththeme.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece, October 31, 2007
This review is from: The Dethalbum (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (Audio CD)
This is defintely one of the best albums I have ever heard, every song rocks so hard. This is one of those albums that you listen to and with each song you think that song is your favorite, but then the next song beats it and you like the next more. There isn't a song on here that I didn't love, just bought the album and have already listened to it twice. The music is some of the best you can hear. My two favorite songs have to be "Better Metal Snake" and "The Lost Vikings". This is a definitely have to have, especially if you love the TV show. You don't even have to see the series to like this CD, it is just pure awesome that every metal fan's gotta have
