Solid Swedish melodic hard rock album, October 8, 2010
This review is from: Detonator (Audio CD)
2001's Detonator is (I believe) the third album from Swedish melodic hard rock band M.ILL.ION. The long-running band went through some changes before releasing this album, including bringing on a new vocalist and guitarist and switching record labels.
Detonator is a fairly typical M.ILL.ION album. The band pushes their brand of melodic hard rock right up to the metal line, but never quite takes it across. Hard-hitting guitar hooks and rhythms are matched with infectious melodies and some very smooth vocals. New singer Ullrich Carlsson seems to be a perfect fit for this band, adding just the right amount of both power and emotion. There are some great anthem-style rockers here, like "Stronger than Ever" and "Race With the Devil," plus the very Dokken/Winger-sounding "Ready for the Man," and the rest of the album has great energy as well.
Detonator is another solid and impressive M.ILL.ION release that should please most fans of melodic hard rock. If you're into bands like Pink Cream 69, TNT, Starbreaker and Last Tribe, you'll want to give M.ILL.ION a try, and Detonator is a good starting point.
Edition Notes: Majestic reissued Detonator (as well as a handful of other M.ILL.ION albums) in 2004, adding digitally remastered sound.
