You'll Derail and Take a Detour from Your Everyday Activities as you read Siegel's Best Two Novels in the One Book!, September 19, 2008
This review is from: Detour And Derailed (Paperback)
James Siegel is one of the best reading on the edge of your seat writers I've discovered in a long time. If you're a fan of
Harlan Coben,
Linwood Barclay and other masters of this genre, you've got to check out James Siegel as well! It is a rare occurrence that you find an author, start reading and can't put the book down, forget about TV and everything else going on in your life because you just want to keep reading. Derailed is that good! It is a masterpiece thrill ride and detour is not bad either.
Obviously compare the prices and postage of the two novels separately with this one but whatever you do get these stories. In
Detour an American couple unable to conceive children choose to adopt a baby through Colombia as it has a shorter waiting list than alternative markets. It all goes smoothly until they realise that their baby has been switched by their nurse. It is only when they get to her house that they realise the switch is only the start of their nightmare. Paul must consume thirty six condoms filled with cocaine, fly back to the USA and deliver every single one of them intact so that his family will be released. If he is one minute late, gets caught or if one ruptures inside him his wife Joanna and his new daughter Joelle will both be killed.
Derailed is the story of a teacher who teaches part time in a US jail and tells the reader about a story that one of his pupils has written for him. The story concerns an advertising director by the name of Charles Schine who has an affair with a woman he meets on the New York subway who is brutally raped in front of his eyes immediately after. They can not tell the police because her husband will know of the shame of the rape and that she has cheated on him, likewise he cannot afford for his wife and terminally ill daughter to find out either. The rapist isn't however content with just getting away with his crime, Charles must suffer a bigger price and since he cannot tell the police Charles' choices are rather limited.
I cannot recommend any book more than Derailed to anyone looking for an on the edge of your seat can't put down thriller! Short chapters also make this masterpiece and Detour as well a breeze to quickly get to the end. Whether you get this two in one book or buy the stories separately, just do one thing, get them both!
