Editorial Reviews

Trapped inside his car by a mud slide, slick LA businessman Jackson Alder suddenly finds himself in a situation he can't talk his way out of. With no hope of rescue, he must defy the odds, battling Mother Nature for his survival.

Customer Reviews

Quite boring overall & takes patience to watch this to get to the ending.

IMO, the air would run out pretty quick and it didn't, it would mean he was so close to the surface he could open the sun roof and climb up and out of the dirt/mud.

Phenomenal acting from Neil Hopkins puts you right into the emotion of feeling helpless, yet never giving up the will to survive.

Tenuous and tense dragged out story about surviving a one in a milllion freak situation! How to surive in that seemingly hopeless set of circumstances is the point and it seems just way too long to hold my attenton. I saw something like this once before similar, but in a ravine down a hillside! I think it was better, but that's just my take on it!

...what it takes to survive?

Wow! DETOUR will force you to not only take stock in your life, but to take stock in what you've got readily available in your car. Because what may seem like a bizarre circumstance could in fact happen to anyone driving in a mountain region. I swear my shoulders are still a little too close to my ears after viewing this film! I had to keep reminding myself "you're not in the car with Jackson."

Speaking of Jackson, leading man Neil Hopkins provides a tour de force performance as he battles the force that is mother nature.

And don't be surprised, if like me, you jump back into your Amazon account & order a few "supplies" for your car.

A DEFINITE RECOMMEND (DETOUR & the supplies!)

I've seen "Gravity" and "All Is Lost" and was impressed by how well this survival film holds up against those two major theatrical releases. Granted, most of the action takes place in a very limited space, but the filmmakers use flashbacks and a variety of techniques to provide a larger story. The acting, directing, camera work, and sound were excellent. I really got caught up in it. Never thought mud could be so scary.

The lead actor (or only actor, really) who I never heard of did a fantastic job and persuaded me to stick it out to the end.

The problem for me is that the entire movie takes place inside of a jeep grand cherokee and I really needed some more in the way of sets and scenery.

I don't think it was a bad ending and I don't feel like it left the viewer hanging but throughout the whole movie you will be yelling at the guy telling him to do what he ultimately does after an hour and 25 minutes.

All in all, it didn't have enough blood, violence, horror or suspense for me.

I'm very claustrophobic, so I couldn't help but imagine how I'd react to being stuck in a mudslide. I don't think I could have kept up the good humor for as long as this guy did, if at all. I've got to admire him for channeling his inner MacGyver to try to think up ways to get water/breathe/keep the mud out of the car/figure out how much mud he was buried under, using the tools and objects in his car, and finally working up his courage in a last-ditch attempt to dig himself out. This role required some damn good acting on the part of Neil Hopkins (whoever he is) to keep up the viewer's interest (the flashbacks helped too) for almost 90 minutes, and I think the film accomplished that fairly well.

Doing a "one man show" has always been a difficult and interesting endeavor. To do it well requires great skill and to do so with little to no props is even more difficult requiring a skill that few posses. The team that produced "Detour" have such skill. They were able to catch and maintain my attention throughout the entire video. The last few moments of this production caused me to blink and breath deeply, the fresh cool air.

This is a funny movie. It's different, and very interesting. That guy kept me stitches. But he was trapped in a mudslide in his minivan. That part isn't what was funny. But the guy himself and how he dealt with it was funny. You're gonna love this movie. So watch it. Especially when you're in the mood for something different.

My husband and I were really captivated by this movie! At first, I thought, how can they make this a whole movie but slowly, I was brought into the characters emotions and time slipped away. It also made us feel the impact for the people who were caught in the Washington mudslide... everything became more real.
