4.0 out of 5 stars Good, short read, September 21, 2010
This review is from: Detroit: A City on the Brink (Kindle Edition)
For an e-book priced $2.99, I expected this to be a fairly short read. Thankfully it is well-written and has some relevant photos to go along with the topic. It's a must-read for those concerned about the decline of Detroit and urban areas more generally.

About 10 pages long, I would not have purchased if I was informed of that on the purchase page. This looks like a school project. I want my $2 back. Good cover art.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very short, too simple., February 20, 2012

This is a very short, simple description of Detroits economic and political situation. Other than a few statistics, this article contains nothing any educated person from south east michigan couldn't explain off the top of their head. It is also rife with an annoying typing style that seems to be a poor attempt at citing the work. I wouldn't even expect an "A" if this was a paper I wrote for an economics or political science class. I'm disapointed I paid for it, and intend on writing a much more in depth and up to date insight into Detroit that does not contain so many repetitions of the same ideas. Took less than a half hour to read. I've paid less on Kindle for hundreds of page novels, and one edition of the Detroit News would be more valuable to a reader trying to garnish some insight into the city and people that helped make the United States such a wealthy and successful country before the wholesale scrapping of our industrial sector. I would not suggest paying for this. I would expect such an article to be the forward to an actual book. I don't wish to insult the writer but they did not put enough effort into this to justify the cost charged. An issue of the Detroit News is $.49. Read that, it's up-to-date atleast. It also won't consitantly use sweeping, imprecise comments to describe huge economic realities. I'm sorry if I've made any typing errors, grammatical or spelling. This is been posted from a cellular telephone. With an update and editing I would add a star or two depending on the quality jump shown.

More About the Author

Kyle W. Bell is a Political Science Major at Indiana University South Bend. He calls South Bend his home, where he was born and raised. He has always been an avid writer, perhaps explaining why he owns and manages two separate websites, each of them dedicated to different subjects. At the tender age of twenty-two, Kyle likes to think that his youth gives him the freedom to write openly and refrain from being overly cynical.

Kyle's main interests include writing, reading books, keeping tabs on the news, watching sports and being with both friends and family. In 2003, he founded the video game news and review website Game Freaks 365. His interest in politics drove him to create KyleBell.com in 2007, a political blog meant to generate ideas and debate on policy, as well as current events.

He is the recipient of the Indiana Black Expo's Martin Luther King Junior Award. It was won in an essay contest in 2002 writing about the perils of racial profiling in the wake of 9/11. The following year he was awarded with the Presidential Award for excellence in education. In 2011 his writing on sports development appeared in Indiana University South Bend's Undergraduate Research Journal.
