Activities for kids in the Metro area.
In this updated edition of her best-selling "Detroit Kids Catalog: The Hometown Tourist" (1990), Ellyce Field calls on both her years as a family entertainment columnist at the "Detroit News" and her own family's experiences to write the ultimate guide for those looking to explore Metro Detroit. Field includes museums, parks, nature centers, u-pick farms, farmers markets, youth theaters, local area malls, and seasonal family festivals and events, as well as a host of unusual outings the whole family will enjoy. To ease the strain of long drives with the kids, the majority of sites are within a two-hour drive of Detroit. Although many of the sites have the younger tourist in mind, there are hours of fun for the adult resident too.

Great Places to Take Kids,
By A Customer
This review is from: Detroit Kids Catalog: A Family Guide for the 21st Century (Great Lakes Books) (Paperback)
If you live in the Detroit metro area and work with or have kids, this book would be a great one to add to your collection. The book is broken down into chapters of like places for easy use. Hours of operation, phone numbers, prices and usually directions on how to get there are included with each destination. There are loads of places listed including parks, museums, historical places and seasonal activities. It is a great field trip planning aid.

This review is from: Detroit Kids Catalog: A Family Guide for the 21st Century (Great Lakes Books) (Paperback)
I recieved this book as a gift with purchase recently, it should be noted that the book was written in 1999 and published in 2000, it is now 2010!, the information inside is dated & obsolete. A few locations do not exist, prices/rates listed have long since gone up in price and local phone area codes have changed, so even if you try to call a place listed, you would have the wrong # and have to try again or just be frustrated that your call did not go through!
It also states that it was in celebration of the Detroit 300, that was in 2001!!! Oh I know, I'll take my kids to Four Bears Water park, Oh, maybe not, there are CONDOS there now!! Oh, and I guess I live in Mount Clemens, not Harrison Twp! According to this book.... Word to the wise, purchase this book, knowing that only a portion of the information inside is accurate, and it can be time consuming to sift through it, and bearing in mind that you may have to make a few calls before you are connected to the right place.
