Book Description

Honoring a Detroit Legend April 1, 2003
The Detroit Tigers are one of Major League Baseball's most venerable franchises. From its 1880s roots with the World Champion Detroit Wolverines of the National League, to its new millennial stadium, The Detroit Tigers Encyclopedia chronicles the team's history on the field, in the dugout, in the broadcast booth, and in the executive suite. The book begins with a tour of old Tiger Stadium, rich in memories dating back to the early part of the twentieth century. The franchise's new home, Comerica Park, a field with modern conveniences and entertainment, evokes cherished memories as well as a look to the future. With a history spanning the entire century, the Tigers franchise has been at the heart and soul of Detroit and the growth of professional baseball. More than 100 of the team's greatest and most colorful players are profiled in a separate chapter and throughout the encyclopedia. The appendix of the book includes the most comprehensive statistical history of the Tigers ever published.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for Tiger fans to find pleasure in, October 20, 2003

This review is from: The Detroit Tigers Encyclopedia (Honoring a Detroit Legend) (Hardcover)
Well, as a die hard Tiger fan (a curse of being born in the Detroit area, I suppose) I TOTALLY recommend this book. It gives as thorough and comprehensive history of the Tigers as I've ever read . . . including a ton of interesting little anecdotes that I had never heard before. I received the Encyclopedia as a gift, and now I'm buying one for a friend. If you like the Tigers, or even if you're just in to "old school" baseball, this is the book for you.

This is a book every Tiger fan should have. The photographs are beautiful, the writing is concise, and enjoyable to read. Its the type of book that makes that time between the last game of the season and spring training seem just a little closer. It makes a beautiful gift to either give or receive.
