4.0 out of 5 stars Finally another album from the D.O.C.
After hearing Helter Skelter, I didn't know what to expect when I purchased this album. The D.O.C. could have been arguably the greatest lyricist of all time if it wasn't for his tragedic accident that in the end he lost his voice. I gave it 4 stars because all the songs were good, but the D.O.C. himself didn't rap that much if anything at all and the two songs...

After hearing Helter Skelter, I didn't know what to expect when I purchased this album. The D.O.C. could have been arguably the greatest lyricist of all time if it wasn't for his tragedic accident that in the end he lost his voice. I gave it 4 stars because all the songs were good, but the D.O.C. himself didn't rap that much if anything at all and the two songs featuring Dr. Dre, "Judgement Day" and "Gorilla Pimpin" he didn't even spit out any verses. Overall a great cd and hopefully the new generation of rap fans will reconize the d.o.c. and realize that he is without a shadow of a doubt, a true rap legend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally Dallas Representin.....4 1/2 stars, August 12, 2003
By
This review is from: Deuce (Audio CD)
The greatest rapper ever from Dallas Texas is The DOC. He is a legend. If you ever liked West Coast rap you owe the DOC almost as much as you owe Dr. Dre. Dre was the sound, the DOC was the voice. His writing skillz are attached to so many west coast classics it ain't even funny. His own lyrical talent, one of the greatest ever, was tragically cut short when his vocal cords were damaged in a car accident back in 1989. After a failed comeback CD in the mid nineties the diggy diggy DOC has dropped another CD entitled "Deuce". This CD dropped earlier this year and unfortunately was slept on. MAN THIS CD IS BANGIN! First of all the title, "Deuce" is a reference to an up and coming crew of Dallas rappers, particularly one called 6Two, who made his debut appearance on the Chronic 2001 classic "Xxplosive". DOC writes all over this CD but it's 6two and the other cats from the Silverback family that vocalizes the vision. The CD starts off with 2 interludes, one abt the music business, and another reintroducing THE DOC to the world reppin Dallas. The first cut is "Concrete Jungle", a hype head bobber featuring Nate Dogg...Nice! Jazzy Pha dropped a nice track on this cut. After another interlude comes "The Sh..", a beautiful reunion cut with MC Ren, Ice Cube, and Snoop. On fire! "What Would You do" is a nice West Coast murda muzik type cut with a DFW connection from 6two and U P T I G H T. "Gorilla Pympin" is a Dre influenced cut with a sample of the 70's classic "Do It". Track 9 "Judgment Day" is a Dre produced cut that straight west coast, all the way down to the police sirens. Track 11 "Ghetto Blues" is a tight track, preceded by an acoustic interlude done by the DOC himself. Real smooth laid out anthem on predestination in da hood. Great cut. Track 12 "All in The Family" features N'Dambi and actually I'm not feelin this cut much. Track 13 "Critical Condition" is a tight millennium version of "Portrait of a Masterpiece" from the DOC classic "No One Can Do It Better". U P T I G H T handles the vocal pace on this cut like an Iverson crossover. "Mentally Disturbed" is another good cut from the CD, pretty much a 6Two coming out party. Organized Noize drops their work on "DFW" a tight crew jam reppin the South and warning everybody to get out the way. Track 18 "Simple As That" features a hook that starts off "Starched down Dickies and a Grambling hat"...Damn... If that ain't DFdub I don't know what is. The track is tight though! Before Snoop raps the CD up you have "Playboy", a tight quiet storm/jazz oasis cut. Nice...Man it's only 1 cut on this CD I wasn't feelin. Excellently done. While the DOC can't flow anymore with the greats, his protégé's and Allstar lineup do their best to pick up the slack and prove the West Coast ain't nothin without the DOC, while at the same time reppin Dtown to the fullest...........

5.0 out of 5 stars D.O.C. Welcome Back, July 17, 2003
This review is from: Deuce (Audio CD)
I'm glad The D.O.C finally got a new album out. I got his two past realeases and was impressed and was happy when I found out another one was coming out. If the car accident wouldn't happened DOC would probarly be one of the dopest rappers out. This ain't as good as No One Can Do It Better but it's great. Won't mention highlights since they're mostly great. Westcoast music at it's best. Respect to all the rappers who was involved with this project and helped and supported DOC to realease this. It ain't over yet! DOC 4 ever.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Round Up, January 14, 2008

i did not even consider getting this album at all at first. i mean come on the d.o.c. without his voice. but i was curious and i am glad i found this treasure. the doc has found himself some snapping young guns (6'2, two face, and deville) from texas. he has cube, dre, ren, baby, and snoop on this one. i am even going to go out on a limb and compare this (the way its set up) to the chronic. yeah u heard me, the chronic. remember how dre introduced the world to tha row and the dogg pound? well that is what the doc is doing.

the production on this project is real good. u would think since its kind of an unoticed by mainstream release, that the beats would suffer but that is not the case. 6'2 ride tracks just like snoop does and he has way better lyrics. two face has real good gangsta muszick wordplay and deville is the pimp juice. go get this album, U HAVEN'T LEFT YET!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Where's the 6two solo?????????, March 26, 2005
This review is from: Deuce (Audio CD)
This album was soem dope ish, the d.o.c's few verses sounded supprisingly good. However the real star of the album is DFW native 6Two who is featured on "xxplosive" [...] from dr. dre's 2001 album. 6two rips this album stealing every song he's on, in fact half the songs are 6two by himself with no guests. I don't know why 6two isn't bigger or why he doesn't have a solo out cuz he definatly deserves it, his laid back gangsta flow is one of the coldest in the south. If you don't have this album you need to get it the beats are tight, and guests include dre dre(beats and rhymes), ice cube, mc ren, snoop dog, nate dogg, jazzy pha,mc breed, and d.o.c.s' new silverback artists. All the guest come correct but 6two still steals the album(and i'm not just dic ridin'). Check out his ish on 2001 and then buy this album. And if you know where the 6two solo is holla back

4.0 out of 5 stars Texas banger with West Coast flava, December 14, 2004
This review is from: Deuce (Audio CD)
The DOC reps Texas but he is much more West Coast than Dirty South. This is because he was discovered by Dr. Dre and was an unofficial member of NWA. DOC no longer raps much because he damaged his vocal cords in a near fatal car accident, but his crew carries the album. Six-Two, who also appeared on two tracks on Dr. Dre's 2001 album, has the most air time on Deuce. And he really shines. I can't wait until he drops a solo. Dr. Dre and Jazze Pha provide much of the production and old NWA partners Ice Cube and MC Ren as well as former Death Row lablemates Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg make appearances. The albums weaknesses include too many skits and a few filler tracks at the end of the album. But if you are a fan of old school West Coast gangsta rap reminicent of The Chronic, Straight Outta Compton, and Death Certificate, then this is an album you must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars 6'2" IS THE MAN!!!, May 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Deuce (Audio CD)
There is no doubt that DOC hasn't lost it! His voice may have changed, but the gravelly edge adds a lot to the words he uses. It sounds more hard-core than most other rappers bcuz when you hear him you know that his life hasn't been easy. He's been hit hard, but he's still going STRONG! This album should've hit the charts in a HUGE way, but it didn't get the promotion that it deserved. 6'2" helps to make this album really clean! He is one of the most underrated rappers out there today! If you haven't heard this guy, you're MISSING OUT!!!

This review is from: Deuce (Audio CD)
D.O.C. is back? D.O.C. never left. You can't create a product this tight and have ever been out of the game? This work is an honest and auththentic account of Hip Hop greatness. Once again one of the pioneers of this cultural movement has stepped up and raised the bar.

5.0 out of 5 stars the West coast is back!!, February 27, 2003

I know alot of people may be skeptical after the DOC had his accident and all, and can't imagine how an album from him could possibly sound. We've all heard his new scratchy voice on various projects, so I was a bit skeptical myself. But I was very pleasantly surprised in listening to this CD. He has left the rapping to some new cats, and they are bringing the heat. The whole album just rides out!!! Very well put together, as D.O.C. sprinkles food for thought in between some songs. I wish I had a drop top ridin down Peachtree when I listen to it!!
