The author does this by precisely weaving a tale with all of the necessary ingredients...a strong protagonist, nostalgia, humor, suspense, evil and humility.

I enjoyed reading the book, mostly for the nostalgia of the era, and references, outright and subtle, to Mansfield, Ohio. As for "Deuce" himself, I have no sympathy for him as a conniving, almost devoid of a conscience, and next to worthless, teenager. I can see him eventually working for Bernie Matoff in the big time world of fraud, and never batting an eye about swindling someone out of their life's savings. I must say that I wasn't prepared for the vividly described evil and horrifying sequence of events at the end of the book, and I sure had mixed emotions about what I was reading. It was near to the same response I had to the ever-so-scary basement scenes in the movie "Silence of the Lambs". Obviously there is more to this book than just a leisurely stroll down memory lane. It has an intended troubling "dark side" for the reader, and it makes you wonder which side the author found most easy to pen. I did find the author's timely use of the matter-of-fact sentence device really interesting, and it did help to step up the pace of the plot. I wonder if Michael Murray just might have the creativity, imagination and the literary skills to be a modern day version of "EAP".

Author does a great job telling the story from a teenager's view. I could actually hear myself at that age. Great time piece for anyone growing up in the early 60s, and great fun for anyone from Mansfield Ohio.

Michael Murray gets its right with Deuce Delaney...the masterful pacing of this story creates a very suspenseful, yet uncomplicated thriller. The author does this by precisely weaving a tale with all of the necessary ingredients...a strong protagonist, nostalgia, humor, suspense, evil and humility. The result is a novel that firmly hooks you from beginning to end with just the right amount of twists and turns thrown in to keep the reader on "edge."

The nostalgia for Mansfield and that time era propelled me through the book; I hated to put it down! Michael Murray has written a riveting tale; the characters are believable and real, the tone and mood capture that period, and the construction of the book makes it extremely readable. I'm right there with Deuce, although as a mother I was quite disapproving of his methods! However, I found him a sympathetic character (and in the meantime kept wondering what kid he modeled Deuce after!). Mr. Murray, I hope you have more stories to tell!

Good quick read told through the voice of a teenage miscreant. Deuce because of his misbehavior does not create a sympathetic character but he is quite credible. However just when you are about to give up on him Deuce gets into an increasingly deadly situation with a really bad actor which puts his life on the line. As the tension builds to the conclusion of the story you find yourself rooting for Deuce to survive.

Deuce Delaney kept my interest from the beginning, and I always had difficulty putting the book down. I found myself holding on to see what trouble Deuce would get in to next. The book was an exciting mystery that took me back to the adventures and imagination of childhood. Waiting for a sequel!

In his debut novel, author Mike Murray has delivered young and older adult readers with a suspenseful, intensely entertaining story about a teenage boy with a penchant for getting into trouble. Enjoy the ride! The ending is superb!
