This guide does have several good points. It looks good and has some nice artwork in it.

+ The maps are pretty good considering the size and multilevel 3D layout of many of the areas. It points out where to find all the hidden stuff. They would be better with some indicators to link the connection points of different levels.

+ The walkthroughs usually contain 3 main paths: Stealth (no fighting), stealth combat (with non-lethal combat and no alarms) and lethal combat. Those aren't usually the only paths available, but it's enough help for people who get stuck no matter their play style. All the side quests are listed in their own chapter, but the main walkthrough points out any intersections with the sidequests.

+ There's plenty of tips for maximizing XP gains listed in the walkthrough.

+ There's detailed descriptions of all the opponents and how to deal with them, including the bosses. This boss strategies section I found really helpful.

- But there's one fault that's caused me personally a lot of grief: The conversation flow boxes. When you get into an important conversation, there are usually 3 or 4 points where you get to choose a reaction to influence how the conversation turns out. So far the guide has been batting 0.000 on this. Every time I try to follow it's suggestions things go badly. It's especially frustrating with Taggart, where the guide tells you to follow him to the waiting room after you've won the conversation, but following their suggestions pisses him off so much he tells you to leave and the guards open fire on you if you step through the door.

Overall this is a good guide, in my opinion. But the random nature of the conversation responses in the game makes the conversation paths provided completely hit or miss. I recommend treating the conversations like boss battles: Save immediately prior and just try your best until you get a positive result. It's a lot less frustrating to do this now that the game has been patched to shorten the load times so dramatically.

Note: The original version of this review was written immediately after following the guide to my death. After further reflection I altered the review to remove my pissed off ranting and up the star rating to 4.

Good guide book. They give you three different options for most every quest (stealth, stealth combat, and combat) allowing you to choose how you want to play the game. And maps at the start of each chapter showing where most everything that can be found in the game is. They don't get everything, and they are basing the book as if you pre-ordered from one of the sites (not Amazon) that has the "automatic unlocks" available. If you did not pre-order from one of those locations, the book will show you objects that simply do not exist in your version of the game.

I beat the game the first time through without the guide. But this helped me find every item in every nook and cranny on my subsequent playthroughs.

Honestly,I really use this book only for the Key pad codes. I dont care for anything else in this book. Its easy to get around and upgrade your weapons and your armor. Read more
