This is simply the most beautiful CD of German Christmas music that I have ever heard. I would recommend it to anyone who loves these old hymns. You don't have to be German.

I am of German descent and wanted a CD of traditional German Christmas music. This CD is exactly what I was looking for. The voices and music are lovely. You get to hear Silent Night, From Heaven Above To Earth I Come, & O Tannenbaum (O Christmas Tree) as they were meant to be heard. There are even clips of church bells from various churches in Germany. I highly recommend this CD.
If you like this one or think you'd like it, I also recommendChristmas Greetings from the Alps - Austrian & German Christmas Music

I have been listening to this music since I was 3 years old. This is truly a music from angels. This music touches your soul like no other. It does makes you somber to reflect your life and the sacrifice our Lord Jesus did for us.This music is not about Santa Claus or shopping but to make you follow closely Jesus steps and become a better father, brother or son.I wish everyone will have the chance to listen to this CD since it took me 30 years to find it on a CD format.

As the son of German immigrants, I have fond memories awaking to the Köln (Cologne) cathedral Glockengeläut in the first track of the classic "Stille Nacht Heilige Nacht" album each Christmas morning. If you are familiar with that 20-track LP collection (the sequence of tracks remains the same on CD, so tracks 1, 10, 11, and 20, the first and last track on each side of the original LP, are cathedral bells from Köln, Aachen, Berlin, and München (Munich)), you are bound to enjoy "Deutsche Weihnachtslieder" as well. Although "Stille Nacht Heilige Nacht" has been my favorite holiday collection for many years, personal sentiment aside this 31-track collection has quickly grown on me to become my new favorite as an adult. In being familiar with the tracks that these two collections share in common, the "Deutsche Weihnachtslieder" counterparts are more solemn. For example, "Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling" ("Ring, Little Bell"), a carol from the nineteenth century, is much more energetic and playful on "Stille Nacht Heilige Nacht". But "Deutsche Weihnachtslieder" shares in common beautiful cathedral bells as well, albeit from Münster, Aachen, Regensburg, and Würzburg. Personal favorites include "Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen" ("Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" or "A Spotless Rose"), a carol from the sixteenth century, "Leise rieselt der Schnee" ("Softly Falls Each Snowflake"), a carol from the nineteenth century, and "Fröhliche Weihnacht überall", a carol from around 1900 that actually originated in English.
