I really, REALLY didn't want to like this stuff....,
By
This review is from: Deva Curl Low-Poo Cleanser (Misc.)
Darn it, this stuff is so expensive, I really didn't want to like this!!! It meant I'd be trapped in a vicious cycle of replenishing expensive products in my hair arsenal. But there was a "love it or return it" guarantee from my salon, so I figured, "What the heck?? I'm sure won't like it any more than the cheap stuff I stock the shower with, I'll return it, and get a couple free washes out of the deal." I mean, I've tried everything from $1 bottle to fancy-schmancy hair care products over the years without seeing a lot of difference in results. Why would this be different?
Ohhhhh no. The first time I used it was right before a party. Coupled with the Deva Curl Ultra Creamy Instant Conditioner, One Condition, 32-Ounces, DevaCurl Deva Towel, DevaCurl Devafuser With Set It Free and a little research on how to treat your hair, I thought, "Hmmmmmm, pretty rad" at the results. Went to the party and unexpectedly got more random compliments on my hair than ever. So I tried to justify the situation by telling myself I just happened to have a good hair day and it was a fluke that it was related to Deva. Tried the Deva products again next time I showered. Same results. So I'm starting to think....TWO good hair days??? Put it to the test and went back to my old stuff. Even with applying all the new goodies and tricks I'd begun to implement, my curls were frizzier and far more lifeless. If memory serves, I even wound up having to straighten it before I walked out the door. Again, really pricey and not wanting to like this, I figured, "Coincidence". Finally, I tried it again with the Deva products right before a GNO: you guessed it--rave reviews. Again! No denying it, this is the real deal. I'm a curl type 2C, just so you know (although I've always personally referred to my curl type as 'cave woman'). I haven't worn my hair curly in years because there just wasn't enough life the curls to make it look like anything more than bedhead, and the time spent straightening hair that hangs past your elbows would drive me mad. Now, they're springy, glossy, and the envy of all around. I officialy wear it curly more than it's straight, embrace what God gave me, and the hair routine is so much easier--which is ultimately what counts, in my book! Again, I don't want to like it. Wait, I want to like it--just don't want to pay for it. I'm still having a hard time putting this in my cart now that my trial bottles are getting low. I can tell you that the time it saves me in hair prep, coupled with the non-stop compliments.....well, can you really put a price on that??? ;) Guess I'm Deva hooked! :(

beautiful, moisturized curls!,

I am african-american with natural hair, and spiral curls. I have searched and searched and tried tons of shampoos in an attempt to find one that wouldn't dry my hair out. Dry curls = frizzy curls! I have been using Deva Curl No Poo for about four weeks, and my curls are wonderful! The key is the lack of detergent in the shampooo. It doesn't dry your hair, and it really does enhance your curls! My hair is much more curly, with my curl definition greatly improved. And after using it for some time, I have noticed that after shampooing, I don't need as much leave-in conditioner as I used to for keeping the frizzies down! Curly girls, you need to get this product!!!!! Can't live without it!!!!

I can't get over how grateful I am to the hairstylist who recommended that I use a sulfate-free shampoo, particularly DevaCurl products, for my naturally curly, long hair (curl type 3b for those of you who know what that means). Getting rid of sulfate-containing products has totally changed my hair and curls for the better - my hair is glossy, not as dry, not as frizzy, etc., etc... I can't recommend this product enough, honestly. I use every other day with DevaCurl Mister Right in between washes to re-shape my curls. This shampoo does a great job of cleaning my hair well without stripping it. Bravo DevaCurl!

I really like this low-lather shampoo. It doesn't dry my hair out, but leaves it clean and soft. Great w/ the other Deva Curl products.
I like this better than the No-Poo which left my hair a bit greasy.

Not Really a Daily Shampoo,

I had to say I bought this product because of the great reviews here. I have fine, curly hair that is like of a 'cherub' or wavy curly depending on the day of the week.
Anyway, I expected this product to remove more "dirt" or whatever (excess conditioner, hair gel, etc.) from my hair. It really felt great in the shower, like it wasn't stripping my hair of moisture, etc. and felt clean. I air-dried my hair and scrunched and tossled it to define curls and give it volume. Low Poo is really great for volume. I had loads of it after use. The draw back was that the ends of my hair were rough, dry and frizzy, wire-y. I really felt that either a) the product did not adequately wash out the gel in my hair from the previous day or b) there is actually hair gel in the shampoo to give the hair definition. Probably great for someone with thicker hair. I will keep experimenting but in the meantime (and could be user error) I will keep using my clarifying shampoo to wash out the excess conditioner and hair gel. Having fine curly hair is a constant battle against limp lifeless hair and dry frizz, and my curls do not look near as shiny and healthy after a good clarifying shampoo every other day. The drawback of that is that I notice more hair in the drain and would like to stop damaging my hair. The No-poo is great but this also builds up over time.

I bought this on the recommendation of my stylist who said it would be great for my wavy hair. I've used it about 5-6 times now. My scalp is no longer itchy and flaky, so that part is great. I gave it a star for that.
However, my hair does not feel clean at all! It's now greasy and feels heavy, and it doesn't seem to remove styling products either. When I rinse it out it seems to take a long time to remove it--which is the opposite of what it's supposed to do. To compare, my low sudsing facial cleanser rinses off in half the time! The shampoo should have too. This shampoo might be okay if you have really short hair, but my shoulder length hair looked terrible. Yesterday was the last straw--I looked like Severus Snape from the Harry Potter movies! ;-) Finally last night I used some Pantene and my hair is bouncy and shiny again.

This is an amazing product that will not bubble up, but will clean your hair and make it smell nice, with out stripping it. I love the way it helps my hair maintain it's curl and bounce with out all that awful frizz. And I really love the fragrance which is a fruity smell too.

Not the right product,

This is listed as the no-poo devacurl shampoo, but it is actually the devacare low-poo shampoo. I would suggest that you be careful what you order, but in this case, it's impossible to order the right thing, since the label on the invoice doesn't match the product received.

product is good, but combing hair in the shower bad idea!,
By
This review is from: DEVA by Deva Concepts CURL LOW POO ALL HAIR TYPES 32 OZ (Health and Beauty)
I have been using this product for a month now, and while I really think it does a great job at hydrating, I am concerned about not combing the hair. Gliding fingers through the hair in the shower seems like a bad idea, since I tried it and lost lot of hair. Not sure how others are doing it ? I also only use this once or twice a week, so the whole week hair looks great, but is all tangled up, and when I use the deva products at the end of the week, there is lot of hair loss. If anyone has suggestions, please guide. Thanks!
