I made the mistake of doing a keratin treatment on my hair. I will never, let me repteat, NEVER, make that mistake again. I uploaded some photos of my hair after the keratin treatment. My curls were a frizzy mess. I had straight ends all over the place. I was almost to the point of cutting it all off when I stumbled across The Curly Girl's Handbook by Lorainne Massey. Let me tell you, this was the best book I've ever bought. I ordered this travel kit to try the Deva products and began using Massey's techniques and within a week, my curls are coming back(see post curly girl method pic). The products are wonderful. I love the way they smell and there's not heavy buildup feeling. It does take some getting used to and trial and error to get the right amount of product on your hair without getting too much, but it's so worth not having the fuzz and frizz. Twenty bucks is a drop in the bucket to discover the treasure of curls hiding beneath all the years of abuse other products have caused. I loved it so much, I've already ordered the 30oz bottles of each product. I will never put anything else on my hair.

This product is AMAZING! I've struggled with crazy curly hair all my life and FINALLY at 40 yrs old someone steered me to a product that does what is says it will! It's so easy ~ use the "no-poo"(I use it 2X/week), condition (3-5 minutes), then right out of the shower, using the gel first, NO brushing, tip your head upside down, scrunching with the towel, and air dry.

There's no frizz and perfect curls. HAPPY HAPPY hair. I had started to use this product without using their towel, and my hair was still frizzy, so the towel is important to your hair routine. It's much gentler than a regular towel and allows for your curls to set naturally. I have a ton of hair, HUGE hair, but it's really fine and very dry. I've stopped all the flat ironing, the curling iron, and the hot rollers. This has stopped the breakage, the frizz is gone, and it's not so "1986 big" anymore. My hair is healthy and natural again. Now I just need to figure out what to do with the dozens of bottles of hair products in my bathroom that I'll never use again!

I have 3B/3C curly hair so I wanted to see if devacurl would work for me, the products are a bit expensive so this was a nice way to sample them. I loved the conditioner, it has a sort of baby powder smell? The no poo would be my favorite product, cleans the hair without feeling completely stripped. The angell gel was decent, I don't know that I would purchase that again. The towel is pretty thin in comparison to other curly hair towels but was a nice addition.

There are two DevaCurl sets, this one and the DevaCurl Try Me/Travel Kit. That one has Devacurl Set It Free, which is not recommended for wavy (or s'wavy) hair like mine. I decided to pay a few dollars more and get this set with the towel instead.

DevaCurl No-poo

I have sensitive skin and sometimes my scalp itches and reacts to harsh chemicals, but I had no negative reaction to this at all. I thought the lack of lather would bother me, but I love it because it means there's less chance of it dripping in my eyes. The smell is minty and herbal, very pleasant. I have fine hair and I've heard low-poo is better for that, but low-poo doesn't come in a set. I rinsed very thoroughly and I still think it might weigh my hair down just a little, but I'd still buy it again.

DevaCurl OneCondition

It was worth buying the kit just to discover this. It goes on light and makes my hair feel like silk. I never knew my hair could feel so soft. I could feel the difference right away. If you're interested in Curly Girl stuff, you may be better off just trying the conditioner than getting this whole set.

DevaCurl Angel

This sets curls and helps them keep in separate strands. It probably looks great if your hair is really curly, but I thought it made my curls look stringy and feel a little crunchy. After my hair was so deliciously soft after the conditioner, it seemed a shame to put anything else on it, so I only tried this once. I'll probably use it if I do any updos with cascading ringlets, it would be perfect for that. But it's not something I'd use every day, and it's the only one I'm not planning on buying in a larger size.

"Free" DevaTowel

It's a pretty nice microfiber towel. I believe it's the same one they sell for $15, looks just like the pic. It's a little thicker than some cheap microfiber towels I've used, but I wish it were bigger. It's not quite big enough for plopping (google it) because it's not long enough to tie or tuck under in the back. Do not pay $15 for this, it's not worth it.

Overall

It's a nice set, but not a great value. The bottles only lasted about four uses for me. The plastic case looks ok but isn't something I'd keep. I wish I'd paid $15 instead of $25 for this. Actually, I wish I'd just gone ahead and bought the big bottles of no-poo and conditioner.

My hair doesn't look dirty, but it's just a little bit limp. I don't mind, because it's so soft and smells nice. Also, it may just be that I'm not used to feeling natural oil on my normally dry-as-a-haystack hair. This gives me the hair washing experience I'm used to without the bad stuff. If you've heard the "no poo" buzz but aren't quite ready to wash your hair with baking soda, give this a try.

I bought this to try out the product before I bought a bigger size and I loved it and did end up purchasing the 32oz of all three products. love the towel, thinking about buying a couple more. I am also thinking of getting this as a present for some of my friends with curly hair, I love it and think they will too! Definitely get this if you want to try the product out and then you will have the towel.

I really enjoyed the no-shampoo cleanser and the conditioner. I did not like the stylying product. I have extremelly curly hair and I felt that the stylying gel did nothing for my hair and my curls were not defined.

I loved being able to test the products without buying the big bottles. The towel added in was very nice too. I love the gel! It gives a very soft hold for me because I don't put a lot in my hair; when it dries and I release the slight gel cast, it doesn't look like I have gel in my hair at all, which is what I like so it's perfect. I have mostly wavy hair with some ringlets, and the gel makes my hair look more uniform by holding the curl. I liked the feel of the conditioner and it made my hair soft and hydrated, but I don't enjoy the smell at all; it's very sweet smelling and doesn't seem to match my personal body chemistry. I think I'll go for other conditioner instead. The cleanser works well, but I'm not sure if it's a necessity for me because my other conditioner works just as well at cleansing.

So overall, they are very good products and make curly hair look great. I would definitely buy the gel again, but skip the conditioner and probably the cleanser too. I would definitely recommend this product to try out before going for the large bottles.

This was probably the best shampoo and conditioner we have ever used. I have tried several expensive products, this is the best I have ever for my family's hair type. I bought this for my daughter's Shirley Temple curls but ended up using it for myself as well. I have pretty straight/sometimes wavy hair. It worked great for both our hair types. I do not recommend the gel because it dries out and starts flaking. Instead, I recommend buying a large shampoo and conditioner. The towel is also very useful for very curly hair.

I am new to the DevaCurl hair product line, but after using it on my curly hair for only one week now, I can easily say that I will never use traditional shampoo and conditioner again. Lorraine Massey, author of the The Curly Girl Handbook, has developed a remarkable way for the way curly individuals approach their hair. The shampoo is more of a head cleanser and the all products are sulfate-free, a wonderful, organic way to wash your hair. I opted for the arc Angel instead of the Angel that came with the kit, but the Angel is nice for times when you just need a very light hold, or a little sprucing up. Next time I purchase the DevaCurl line I am definitely going to get the 32 ounce bottles so that I can throw all of my other chemical-heavy hair products away.
