Phenomenal blend of musical styles!,

I just keep playing this over and over! I listen to a LOT of kirtan music and have heard many musicians in the field attempt to merge western sounds with indian chants. Sometimes the western influence is just a little too much and sometimes it just doesn't seem to fit. But THIS! THIS is amazing! So beautiful and rich and what feels like a perfect blend of true devotion and love of the practice of kirtan while bringing in musical styles the musicians love to play. This is a great weaving of genres as opposed to superimposing one on the other. I highly recommend you buy this CD. It's fun, uplifting, contains great musicianship and harmony, and brings me into a deep connection every time I hear it. Thank you Sean and group!

Wow, that's an ingenious fusion: New Orleans panache, blended into Eastern yogi chanting. I'm buying this now. Awesome!

Devaloka is an amazing album filled with soul. Sean Johnson's voice is heartfelt, soulful and authentic. Gwen and Alvin complete the percussion to make this album rich. This album will round out anyone's collection. It is both energizing and relaxing. Makes you want to sing out and weep out. A must buy.

This CD is a must for anyone who likes Kirtan, Yoga or meditation. I use this CD when I am with candlelight in a hotbath. It is so inspiring and comforting Sean has a voice that is soothing and all the musicians are perfectly timed. Great collection of music!

This CD by Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band is full of groovy, upbeat devotional chants. They add all kinds of wonderful sounds to their songs not usually found in devotional chant music. I love taking it along with me in the car so I can sing along. I definitely recommend this CD.

Heard the band perform most of these songs at Bhakti Fest where they rocked the house. Definitely a highlight of the event. The new CD takes off where their last CD, Calling the Spirits, left off. The music is not only great...these are fine people worth supporting!

I have been listening to "yoga music" for about 15 years, and this album is the first that has really grabbed me in a long while, since early Krishna Das. I think it's the combination of sweet devotion coming from Sean's voice, and the amazing musicality of the band (Gwen sings, plays several percussion instruments at one time, Alvin is a virtuoso bass and guitar player who made the jazz circuits in New Orleans for years). I heard them years ago, on their post-Katrina tour, and it was sweet, but this new music just blew me away. It is tight (in a good way), creative, and catchy. AND, for all you yoga teachers, you can actually play it all the way through in an active asana class as it winds down at the end (I especially love the ending part of Asato Ma (Illumination), so sweet to start savasana to). Get this album! See the band in concert! Jai ma!

First of all, a disclaimer: I know Sean, Gwen and Alvin. However, I was not expecting the quality of music on this CD. Every song is a keeper. For a yoga class or as background music, you can get lost in the fluid melodies and rhythms of the music. This could be used as a stand alone for yoga class or interlaced with other songs. Sean's voice is superb and Gwen's provides fine backgrounds as well as solos. The CD is a winner. Buy 2; they make great presents.
