Gets better each time you hear it!,
By vsquee (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews

This is one CD that I never tire of listening. The sound quality is fantastic, the voices exquisite. Each track is strong and epic in its own right - my personal favourites are "Maar Daala", "Silsila Chahaat Ka", and "Dola Re Dola". Even though I have absolutely no idea what they're singing about (just vague recollections of the subtitles from the DVD), the songs are beautiful. This CD is not just for fans of Bollywood - it is pleasing to everyone I've made listen to this CD.

Delightful and exotic.,

What a wonderful soundtrack. I am not Indian or Asian, but I enjoyed every minute of this soundtrack. If you are a fan of world music, you need this in your collection. I have heard Indian music before, but nothing like this! Its a pleasant (and delicious) surprise.
From the airy and light-hearted romantic track "Bairi Piya" to the exotic and intriguing danceable rhythms of "Doola Doola" and "Maar Daala," the cd is a masterpiece. Definitely listen to "Bairi Piya" more than once! You won't be dissapointed when you buy this cd.

A must-buy,
This review is from: Devdas (Audio CD)
Admittedly, a great measure of Indian music turns me off, much the same way that most Western pop music turns me off--it can be overtly cheesy and tedious, especially when it's blaring down on you via crappy speakers in some random rickshaw during rush hour. This soundtrack, however, is exquisite--if you're a fan of Rahman, I would say this soundtrack is better than any of his soundtracks on the whole. While watching Shahrukh generally makes me squirm (his over-acting and caricatured boyish humor is a fixture in Indian cinema), the movie was worth it for the music (even though it took Shahrukh over an hour to die--why does it always take him so damn long to die? and why does he have to torture us all so in the process?). In any event, buy the CD. If you can stomach Shahrukh, the movie is as least visually and musically stunning. Abhi mai khatam ho gayi.
