Good for Basics. Poor for Advanced Topics, November 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Developing Client/Server Applications With Oracle Developer/2000 (Paperback)
This book covers the basics somewhat well. It is good for beginners. It includes simple functionality to pull data from a table. But beware, the book is already outdated, and does not cover the most recent version of Des/Dev2000. In addition, it could be frustrating to use due to the syntax errors in the book's examples. On the bright side there is the CD. The CD samples actually work, and contradict the poor code in the book. If you want to see how Developer2000 works, review the CD, and then take your pen to the book, make changes, and submit your edits (and bill for your time) to the Publisher. However, this is all contingent upon the fact that you can load the CD. I spent two days attempting to install the CD... even when I have used Oracle and Dev2000 before. A CD tip for the USER that the book won't tell you: the Dev2000 Demo CD only runs on Win95. A CD tip for the AUTHOR and PUBLISHER: Everybody does not run Win95. Overall, the book is below average since it's examples cover only the most basic of reports and functionality. Maybe, you could teach a college class with this, but it is impractical in business. Who prints a report based on a simple join anymore?

CD Doesn't Work on Windows 95B !, April 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Developing Client/Server Applications With Oracle Developer/2000 (Paperback)
My PC runs on Windows 95B and it locks up with this CD-ROM. The support people sent me a patch for it, but it still doesn't work. They know it doesn't work with Windows 95, yet they still sell the book.

Good for beginners only., March 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Developing Client/Server Applications With Oracle Developer/2000 (Paperback)
I (Talat Deeb) read this book after a course on the Oracle developer-2000, it didn't add so much knowledge to me. I suggest this book for the beginners only.

Excellent for Beginners, July 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Developing Client/Server Applications With Oracle Developer/2000 (Paperback)
For the someone new to Oracle application development, the book explains all aspects of the application development lifecycle, and provides real-world examples, along with trail versions of Developer/2000 software and Personal Oracle 7. Note bad for the money.

The Book List Codes and Examples Without Explaining Them, November 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Developing Client/Server Applications With Oracle Developer/2000 (Paperback)
The best thing about this book is the CD, because it contains the trial version of Personal Oracle 7. The author of the book seems to talk at you, rather than to you. Most of the material is not explained to the reader. It seems that you are supposed to look at how something was done and figure out on your own why it was done that way.

Too many pages to explain few basic ideas, January 12, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Developing Client/Server Applications With Oracle Developer/2000 (Paperback)
I am(was) new to Oracle and its development tools and bought this book because I needed to write an application using Oracle Developer 2000. I have not found this book of much help in achieving my goal. The book useful contents could have been written in 100 pages. I didn't find useful reading things twice (Chapters 8 and 12, 9 and 13 or 10 and 14) or explaining the layout of Windows menus. I have learnt more from thumbing through the help documentation provided in the demo by Oracle than following the book.

No Details...., April 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Developing Client/Server Applications With Oracle Developer/2000 (Paperback)
Computer book in general should be readable as well as serve as an appendix to frequently asked topics. This book does neither. It just leads you to a beautiful waterfront and then pushes you in. I can hear the author yelling, "Sink or Swim!" I gave the additional star for the CD which includes Developer 2000.

Easy to finish it, July 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Developing Client/Server Applications With Oracle Developer/2000 (Paperback)
The big benefit to have this book is for its CD. Nothing else. It's too simple to understand the whole book, which should be published less than 100 pages.

I am looking for this book that comes with a version 2.0 CD. I managed to find one with version 1.0 CD from Singapore's Borders Bookstore. Can you help me to find the one I want? Thank you.
