Book Description

0566086484 978-0566086489 November 30, 2005
The credit card industry today is a multi-trillion dollar business that employs hundreds of thousands of people across the globe and impacts literally billions of people every day. Yet there is no comprehensive book or reference material available in the marketplace that provides fact-based perspectives on how to develop and manage a successful card business - despite the significant demand from all those involved in the industry. "Developing and Managing a Successful Payment Cards Business" offers information, analysis, observations, perspectives and advice on developing and managing a card business. There is comprehensive coverage of all areas including card business strategy, product development, customer acquisition and retention strategies, and product marketing techniques. The book also reviews underlying infrastructure components relating to operations and systems including risk management and transaction processing and suggests improvement techniques. There is detailed discussion on portfolio performance and profitability evaluation, as well as new technology developments and emerging payment systems such as chip cards and mobile payments.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Developing And Managing a Successful Payment Cards Business (Hardcover)
Great overview of the card business. An excellent resource for setting up a card business from all aspects, including marketing, accounting, sales, and operations. This book is geared toward the credit side of this space, and although my interests are on the debit side, it still provided alot of "nuts and bolts" ideas on how to launch the business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Overview of the Card Business, January 12, 2011

This review is from: Developing And Managing a Successful Payment Cards Business (Hardcover)
This book provides a complete view of the card business which I found very useful. It shows how the different parts of the business are connected and work together. Marketing chapters offer good pragmatic advice. The finance section breaks down the P & L and identifies what costs are important and why. It is essential reading if you work for or planning to work for a card issuer. Unfortunately, the merchant acquiring side is not sufficiently covered. It provides a global perspective - hence it does not recommend vendors (as another reviewer expected) - as these are very different in different markets. The emerging payments section needs to be updated though especially with the advent of mobile payments. Still, despite the limitations I have not found a better source to learn about the card industry at the international level.

Good book to use a referecne for teaching a course in bankcard industry. I think it is overpriced a bit.
