Single handiest book you can own as Oracle Developer!,
By Johnny Avacado (Richmond, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Developing Personal Oracle 7 for Windows 95 Applications (Paperback)
This is a great book! I was former Webmaster and lead CGI programmer at a fortune 500 company and currently am development manager on a team writing and developing Oracle Web applications. This book is the most used Oracle book I own! I must have over a dozen Oracle books and this book rules! It is not advanced but 98% of the time I am able to get the information I need for what I am trying to do. The writer is a good teacher and one could use this to learn and become very proficient in the use of Oracle from a developemnt standpoint. Other critics here have said it is too basic and I agree it is basic but not too basic to be very useful. I heartily recommend this book to anyone learning Oracle or who needs a one volume easy to use reference for Oracle.

Great Book if all you want to learn is SQL,
This review is from: Developing Personal Oracle 7 for Windows 95 Applications (Paperback)
If all you are interested in doing is learning Personal Oracle basics and SQL, THEN THIS IS THE BOOK! But if you already know SQL, then don't waste your money. When I needed this book, I was trying to automate Oracle with Visual Basic and it did not help at all.

This has been a very useful tool. It's the type of book that you want to have on your desk at all times. I found it to be very informative and easy to use. This book is perfect if you are new to Personal Oracle 7 and PL/SQL!!!

This has to be the worst book i have ever used. Besides the numerous mistakes and typo's each subject is covered so breifly that u might as well guess as to what to do. The books title is very misleading also. It says 'for windows 95' when a good part of the book is geared towards 3.11. I think that the only good use for this book would be to replace a broken leg on a couch.

A great book with loads of information for the new database person. Exceptional examples that work and is well explained. The CD did not work. In short, buy this book if you want to learn SQL and Oracle. This book fails in providing developers with strong information on how to develop an Application with Personal Oracle

This book is excellent for someone new to databases. The examples work (The CD doesn't though), and the author brings you along from begining steps to understanding databases to more advanced PL/SQL. Five stars isn't enough. The book falls short on explaining how to integrate databases with Visual Basic, Powerbuilder etc. Don't buy this book to learn how to integrate client/server apps. Use it as a study guide to get into Oracle.

This book has no sense of organization,

This review is from: Developing Personal Oracle 7 for Windows 95 Applications (Paperback)
This is a pretty disorganized book by any standards. The author seems to have no sense of what he is trying to teach. It would have been so helpful if he had just had the reader create a project from scratch. Instead he jumps from from one topic to the next and then back again. If you want to learn Oracle dont buy this book. The best thing that I can say about this book is that it may serve as a solid reference after you have mastered Oracle.

Excellent book for beginners in Personal Oracle,

This review is from: Developing Personal Oracle 7 for Windows 95 Applications (Paperback)
A well organized and written book. Covers a lot of SQL queries and PL/SQL. All possible Personal Oracle7 features are covered for the beginner who is working on his own PC. The appendices for using Oracle with various kinds of front end tools could have been lengthier. Good book to have handy if you need reference for Oracle features, complicated queries, stored procedures and database triggers.
