Book Description

January 1997 1557662754 978-1557662750 1
Prominent investigators in the fields of neuroscience and behavior come together in this volume to examine the brain's prefrontal cortex. Exploring evolutionary issues, neurobiology, neuropsychology, and neuropathology, these experts advance the knowledge of the growth, structure, and function of this brain region as it relates to human behavior and development. Based on multiple human and primate research studies, the book sheds light on typical brain growth and simultaneously describes the functional and developmental consequences of acquired and developmental damage to the prefontal cortex. The authors address specific types of brain injuries and lesions, explaining how these factors can affect cognitive, behavioral, and social functions such as memory, attention, decision making, and language abilities. For neuropsychologists, neurobiologists, psychologists, and researchers in developmental psychology and learning disabilities, this volume ensures a comprehensive understanding of the research on the development and function of the prefrontal cortex.

This review is from: Development of the Prefrontal Cortex (Hardcover)
After reading the above mentioned book, I feel that I have just been through six weeks of basic training..and I loved every minute of it. Though some of the wording, as in all indepth medical journals, was Webster necessary!, I found more information and understanding than in any other book of this genre. Thank you for a work well done...and one in which we "laymen" can understand and appreciate. In my profession I work with troubled youths and one day one of my associates made a crude statement that really got me thinking...and researching, and questioning. Her comment was;"are all these kids stupid or brain damaged?" And I have come to the "unprofessional" conclusion that the FACTS, such as I found in this book, make complete sense, and yes, I believe a good majority of these kids...and many of the adult popualtion, is indeed suffering from some form of brain damage. I highly recommend this book to all those that are searching for answers to our social, family and community problems we face with our youth and withh each other. Thank you
