About the Director
Mrs. Rhoda P. Erhardt, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, received her B.S. in occupational therapy from the University of Illinois, and her M.S. in child development and family relations from North Dakota State University. She was trained in pediatric Neuro-Developmental Treatment of cerebral palsy (NDT) in London, England. The former director of the Easter Seal Mobile Therapy Unit in Fargo, North Dakota, she is currently in private practice in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, and has provided evaluation and consultation services to a variety of health agencies, educational systems, and national corporations, as well as presenting workshops throughout the world. Publications include books, chapters, journal articles, assessments, and videotapes on topics such as normal and atypical development of prehension, vision, eye-hand coordination, and feeding in children with cerebral palsy and learning disabilities.
Product Description
This video follows the development of a typical child from the age of one year to two years, showing the importance of motor, cognitive, communicative, social, and emotional development in the transition from finger feeding to utensil use. Feeding skills demonstrated include drinking (from bottle to cup to straw), finger feeding, spoon and fork use, and mealtime social skills. This video is useful for teaching when paired with the video Self-Feeding in the Child with Special Needs, because this typical little girl who is learning new feeding skills during her 2nd year is at the same developmental stage as the 8 year-old boy with physical delays.
