Book Description

January 13, 2009 0495601713 978-0495601715 8
This popular, topically organized, and thoroughly updated child and adolescent development text presents you with the best theories, research, and practical advice that developmentalists have to offer today. Authors David R. Shaffer and Katherine Kipp provide you with a current and comprehensive overview of child and adolescent development, written in clear, concise language that talks "to" you rather than "at" you. The authors also focus on application--showing how theories and research apply to real-life settings. As a result, you will gain an understanding of developmental principles that will help you in your roles as parents, teachers, nurses, day-care workers, pediatricians, psychologists, or in any other capacity by which you may one day influence the lives of developing persons.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this textbook., March 14, 2011

I am not an avid textbook reader. Actually, I never open my books. However, I love this textbook. It is fascinating and well-written, consisting of an odd "flow" which makes it a pleasure to read. The kindle format is wonderful, though the tables do not show up on my Kindle and require Kindle for PC.

As textbooks go, this is my favorite. It is not boring, like so many of them, and yet is written in an easy-to-understand language. Buy it - you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource and great format!, January 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I enjoyed the textbook; found myself reading it even when I didn't have to. It's a terrific resource for anyone who works with children.
I also purchased the loose-leaf format because it was the least expensive at the time. I quickly fell in love with it! I only had to take the chapters I needed to class with me, so I didn't have to lug a heavy book around.
I will buy loose-leaf whenever possible from now on!

4.0 out of 5 stars Covers many Developmental Issues, March 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Developmental Psychology: Childhood and Adolescence (Hardcover)
Had to get this for my developmental psychology class.
It went over a lot of developmental issues.
Had many words defined throughout the book.
I bought it new, so the book was in nice condition.
