Wonderful Resource for Parents and Teachers!,

This review is from: Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs (N.A.E.Y.C. Series #234) (Paperback)
This book will tell you where a child should go next in all developmental domains. It's full of examples of appropriate practices for curriculum planning. It covers infants through 8-year-olds. It's a life-saving assessment tool. I would recommend it to any parent or teacher.

Most Influential Piece of Early Childhood Writing Since '60s,

Every single book that I have read on early childhood education cites this book in some way for some reason. By thumbing through it, anyone can probably understand why. Dr. Bredekamp and Dr. Copple present the most transprent how-to manual ever for distinguising between proper and improper teaching methods in an early childhood classroom. EVERY early childhood teacher should have this book. It is affectionately known as "The Bredekamp book", "Developmentally Appropriate Practice", and "DAP".

This book is fairly complete and has guidelines and all a teacher needs to know.
Most useful to student-teachers. I wish the INFO could be presented in a more reader-friendly way.

The materials within the book are alright. Even though some of the text may need to be updated (mainly due to the published date), it is still proven useful as a frequent resource. Looking at the book's condition, I still think it is considered good as new. It only has a few creases here and there in small areas. None of the pages inside are actually affected by the creases. Looking forward to a good use of this book.

I first read this book in 1995. It was required reading in order to get my CDA. Now I am Director of a Pre-School. I used the up graded version to train my staff on effective methods and practices in their classrooms. It is an excellent book to use as a reference when planning a classroom or the activities for the children. Our school has an excellent reputation in our little town and we have a waiting list. So using this book works well. I am planning on getting copies for any staff member who wants one to use as a handy reference.

great resource for to be teachers!,
This review is from: Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs (N.A.E.Y.C. Series #234) (Paperback)
Being a 2nd year early childhood education student at Miami University (in Ohio!) this book is very helpful in many ways. My first time reading it bored me to tears because it all seemed like common sense but reading the DAP section for 3-5 year olds was very interesting. I had done 2 weeks field expereince at a preschool and could compare what was developmentally approraite in the classroom I was in. Plus it was an excellent tool when going to do my assignments!
My professor claims that this is an excellent tool in helping us prepare to be teachers and I agree...we can relate what is in the book to our classrooms in the future. Plus for anyone out there wanting to be a mom it is a great resource as well!

I ordered this book for a class I am taking only to discover there is a more recently published edition (January 2009) with the same ISBN that has over 100 more pages and a CD. I should have known that $3.99 was too good to be true!

I thought it was too good to be true when I found this textbook for only $1.oo. When I went to class it was not the third edition. It was an old discontinued edition. So I had to purchase the newer edition. This was the only time I've had any problems with Amazon. I will continue to shop with them.

My wife needed this book (Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood) for her teaching certification course and we were happy to find it here for so cheap. We knew it might be a little different because it was likely an older edition, thus the lower price, but how different could it be? Well, it was different enough for her to get lost in trying to follow along with the class. She ultimately got so frustrated trying to use this book that she bought the latest version. I advise you to check with your teacher first or you could go through the same frustrations she did.
