Is there such a thing as rock anymore? It's alternative, or it's pop, or it's metal, or it's industrial, or it's techno. Or, it's Pitchshifter, who are all of the above... and then some. The influence of old-school punk like the Dead Kennedys is obvious, especially on songs like "As Seen on TV" ("When sport utility vehicles are no longer enough, you need the Terminator!"), but Pitchshifter have accomplished the difficult trick of melding several genres into a distinct sound. Perfectly at home in goth dance clubs and on the Ozzfest tour, they sprawl into head-spinning electronica experiments or straight-ahead riffage ("Stronger"'s guitar line sounds like it was written by Rob Zombie), and they're never boring. What more could any punk/metal/rivet-head ask for? --Genevieve Williams

5.0 out of 5 stars Industrial Rising?, January 8, 2001
This review is from: Deviant (Audio CD)
Well... This is definately one of the better Pitchshifter albums, in my opinion... It has a great combination of metal, punk, industrial, goth, and techno, which makes for yet another interesting experience as it is not heard much nowadayz.... While not as direct and soul-driven as the lyrics of previous albums, the lyrics of "Deviant" still get the point across and smash the windows of any illusory ideas as to what they feel. The music itself is masterfully recorded and played with much more maturity while still bearing the intensity and angst of the Pitchshifter everyone knows (if you know who they are). My favorite tracks would have to be "Wafer Thin", "Hidden Agenda", "Scene This", and "Everything's ... (Again)".... All worthy tracks that are definately worth a listen..... Almost sheer perfection in their form.... If I had to compare them to anyone it would be my favorite band, Ministry, because of their (Pitchshifter's) intelligient lyrics that still somehow remain vague at times, their beautifully crunching, stop-motion, de-tuned guitar riffs, and electronic out-of-this-world technoish drum beats... If you need a new fix, or something that will grab your attention (along with everyone else's attention), then get a copy of this. I will guarantee that you won't be disappointed in any way.

5.0 out of 5 stars At Least In The Top Five For Album Of The Year, September 23, 2000

Amir X. Tajakin (Orange County, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deviant (Audio CD)
Pitchshifter are definitely one of my favorite bands these days. They are one of the most original bands out there, and although Deviant is not their best work (Infotainment by far) it still packs a sonic and quirky punch. Each song is really quite different, but they all fuse the same kind of styles together: Electronica, Industrial, Alternative, and Punk, while remaining fiercely independent (meaning they aren't another Staic-X/Apartment 26 copy). They've been doing their thing for quite some time now, and they seem to have matured with every album they put out. This one is not as fast paced, but it still is really good music. The guitars are stop/start kind of thing and they carry a heavy crunch. The commentary is smart and quirky, and makes a lot of sense. I also like the cover art which is a cross between the Pope and The Queen ... My favorite songs are Condescension, Hidden Agenda, As Seen On TV, and Wafer Thin. They have and amazing live show, and I'd suggest checking out Static-X, Apartment 26, Kill II This, and Ministry if you like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars hard techno punky rock??? or is it the other way round, March 30, 2005

again Pitchshifter has changed more or less completely of style.
they have been doing black metal at their beginnings , then a fusion of punk rock and drum and bass : on this one the pop and punky sides are more accentuated, although there is still a synthetic smell to their music. hard to classify, impossible in fact...."Dead battery" is already a classical song....
those guys are not followers, they make the trends....
the cherry on the cake: jello Biafra comes to "sing" on " as seen on TV",whose beat will make your loudspeakers explode....go for it NOW......
