Editorial Reviews

David Draiman of Disturbed, and ex-Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo collaborated together to construct Device. The album takes strands from hard rock, industrial, and electronica, and as a result, Device's self-titled debut album for Warner Bros. Records is a focused, fierce, and fiery new machine.

Device's debut album is a fist smashing new sound that thrust itself to the top of my workout playlist. The project has gotten much of it's attention and publicity through it's lead singer David Draiman, the iconic voice of Disturbed.

Many of the poor reviews of Device are consequence of Disturbed's loyal fanbase (to which I also belong). It is very challenging for a new band to incorporate such an iconic sounding voice into it's music without sounding like it ripped the soul out of the lead singer's original band. And being that Draiman's voice is so recognizable, it is also difficult for listeners to separate the two. Though when Device is truly taken from it's own plate, the sound is inherently different... and addictive.

The hard hitting rifts and drum smashes are less technical than disturbed, yet terrifyingly hypnotic. The myriad of experienced vocalists collide and fuse with Draiman effortlessly. The feel of Device is dark and dirty fist-pumping head-banging bench-pressing adrenaline and I've loved every minute of it.

I highly recommend this album from DEVICE.

I am so glad that David Draiman decided to do a new project. The Disturbed Frontman is a great singer, and now he can showcase it in a new way. I have to say when I first heard "Vilify," I thought it was raw and almost like Korn mixed with Disturbed. It made me want to hear more. The most amazing thing is the song with Lizzie Hale "Close My Eyes Forever,"which is a cover orginally done by Ozzy and Lita Ford. David and Lizzy feed off each other on that song and it just works. He works with other great artists, Serj Tankian,Geezer Butler,Tom Morello. I like "Haze" with guest star M. Shadows. It is quite a Cd that David really does new things with his voice and is worth having. Device is made up of Will Hunt, Virus, and David Draiman. Geno Lenardo from Filter also worked with the band. It is industrial rock with Metal thrown in.

I love industrial metal and was very excited when lead singer of Disturbed was creating an industrial metal side project. This album sounds more like Disturbed than it does something new. I'm not saying this is a bad CD, I like it, just wish it moved itself further away from Disturbed. I found that the industrial elements were not as strong as they should be, and some songs sound like they don't have any at all. The strongest industrial track would be their first single "Villify." Like I said good album just wished it was more separated from Disturbed with a more unique sound.

I actually was not expecting much coming from Draiman's new project although I hoped for it. Comparing this to Disturbed it's really close but you can hear the difference. I feel this album was actually BETTER than Asylum but then again Asylum was the least appealing Disturbed album to me. My favorite Disturbed albums are probably Indestructible and Ten Thousand Fists followed by The Sickness, then Believe, the B track Lost Children, THEN Asylum. Let's not take what I say as Asylum being bad but it's not as good. I digress....this new cd from Device is HEAVY and very good. I enjoyed the Ozzy and Lita cover of Close My Eyes Forever and the album doesn't really fade into any obscurity after the first few tracks, which seems to happen a lot now a days with todays rock bands albums. Since I give most Disturbed 5 stars I give this 4.

This isn't a big departure from Disturbed's sound. Nothing really inventive here, but it is not a bad album. Full of featured artists, which happen to be the highlights of the album. A good album for Draiman fans, but if you didn't like him before, this won't change your mind.

If you're expecting Disturbed, then you'll be disappointed. But, if you're looking for something with a more industrial vibe, this is it.

Excellent album.

Why, oh why did I buy this. It's more of the same Disturbed esq lyrics with a worse band and worse hooks.

It was said that this album was industrial which made me excited because I like that genre. Most of this CD ranges from OK to great. Those tracks are;
You Think You Know
Penance
Vilify
Close My Eyes Forever
Opinion
War Of Lies
Through It All
Recover (best buy exclusive track) --buy this one, it's my favorite :)

Tracks I didn't like;
Haze
Haunted
Out of Line.
Wish (deluxe version)
A Part of Me (deluxe version)

I would’ve liked for him to have done with Device what Maynard of Tool did with APC. I love David’s classical singing voice and would love to have heard his melodies on slower tracks. It would be cool if he would put more Hebrew in his songs like he did in Stupify. The lyrics were ‘ta fa ched’ which means, be afraid. I would love to hear more classical signing or an orchestra type song like Darkness off Believe.
