Best blues CD of 2010,

I reviewed this CD when it came out, for Crossroads Blues Society. I said it was the best of 2010 and I haven't changed my mind in the many months that have followed. Thus, I ended up buying my own copy. This CD has an overall "T-Bone Burnette" feel thanks to Jeff Turmes and Dave Darling. There's a real stripped down bass, drums, hooky-guitar tremelo-laden feel. Magness husky voice is used to the max to convey songs of betrayal, joy, remorse, and acceptance. The use of acoustic instrumets add the the character of this CD. Every song is well crafted yet self-contained. No filler here. For those unaware of Magness' talents, this is the perfect place to begin. The Devil is An Angel Too holds up to constant play. It is a miraculous CD!

Janiva Rocks!!,
This review is from: Devil Is An Angel Too (Audio CD)
Gotta say- This is vintage Janiva Magness!! I like it better and better every time I listen to it. This woman can sing!! She didn't become B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year 2009 for nothing. I saw her perform at the Baton Rouge Blues Festival on April 24, 2010. In addition to sounding great on the CD, she also puts on a heck of a live show!! Get the album, and if you are lucky enough, catch a show of hers, too. You can get her tour schedule at her website. Enjoy!!

Saw her in performance and had to buy the CD. Great singer and material. And the band has been with her a long time and is very tight. Love the nerdy-looking keyboard player. Highlight songs are the title song, 'Weeds Like Us', 'Slipped, tripped and fell in love' .Deserves a much greater level of success and a big audience.
