super groove with a downtempo dub chill, March 2, 2011
This review is from: Devil In The Detail (Audio CD)
it is hard to categorize the sounds - the music - of this album/compilation. It may be called downtempo, illbient, perhaps in the realm of dub. What it is - it is hypnotic, somewhat trance-like but probably not what is termed as 'trance' music. There are many organic layers, it is complicated. It is to me much more enjoyable and less superficial than the 'chill' records that have been common and very popular in the past decade. It is much more complex and sophisticated than the more popular 'chill' genre. Yet it is smooth and does not take any undue amount of effort to enjoy. One can be in a subconscious state and follow it to a tee. In fact the slower one's heartbeat is perhaps the more that one can synchronize with this music. For some odd reason it is not more popular than it is, to a point that some sellers may be offering this CD for the ridiculous price of a dollar, as it is priced by two sellers as I write this review. Of course the rest of the sellers have it priced more appropriately at $15+ because this one is a gem, you will definitely find yourself in the mood to listen to it over and over when the mood strikes you, and it will.
