The Devil Knocks it almost out of the ball park!,
By Apollo Reader (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Devil Knocks (Jake Strait) (Mass Market Paperback)
Frank Rich's 2nd volume of Jake Strait is another rousing tale of high-octane adventure in a bleak future.Although not as great as the first, (they rarely are!), still, all in all, there is a solid storyline here. Great characters of all kinds, from Good and Evil, and in between. There is a very strong resemblance here of the main character of Jake Strait to Repairman Jack. If you have read any of F. Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack series, then you know what I mean. If not, then you need to pick one up. And also read this series. Both have zany and fun characters, not just muscleheaded heros. Jake Strait is not only tough and street smart, but also funny and gregarious. He is not one-dimensional. That, along with great side characters and exciting action sequences, is the allure of this series. If you like quick and quirky pulp fiction-type of fun reads, then this one is definately for you. I look forward to the next installment. And the cover art is yet another bonafide winner! Reminds me of The Punisher. |
