4.0 out of 5 stars MORE OF THE WEST--LESS OF THE SEX!!!, May 17, 2002
By
This review is from: The Devil and Lou Prophet (Lou Prophet, Bounty Hunter) (Paperback)
I would have given this book a five except for the love makeing between Lou and Lola. I don't buy a western for that. Lou Prophet is a bounty hunter. He is hired to bring Lola Diamond in to testify against Billy Brown. She saw Brown kill a man. Brown runs the town and usually does anythng he wants. He sends several people after Lou and Lola to kill them before they get back to town. Lou is very good at bringing them down as they come but Brown and others finally gang up on them in the end. There is lots of action and the book is very fast moving. If you like a good western and don't mind some sex parts you will like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE DEVIL AND LOU PROPHET, April 10, 2002
This review is from: The Devil and Lou Prophet (Lou Prophet, Bounty Hunter) (Paperback)
Lou Prophet, bounty hunter with a rough edge, fast gun and an instinct for
survival gets far more than he expected when he accepts a mission to
escort
the lovely and spirted showgal Lola Diamond back to Johnson City to
testify
against a killer.
Billy Brown controls Johnson City with an iron and lethal hand, but sits
in a
jail awaiting trial and hanging--if Lola arrives by 12 noon to testify
against him. Brown, accused of slashing a barman's throat, vows Prophet
and
Lola will never reach the courtroom alive. Through his crooked lawyer, he
sends vicious cutthroats after the two, resulting in the deaths of a
number
of innocent people and explosive confrontations.
Will Prophet get Lola back in one piece and on time? And will Prophet be
able
to handle the fiery showgirl who wants no part of testifying against Brown
and looks to escape at every juncture?
THE DEVIL AND LOU PROPHET is fast-paced, wild and woolly western action.
Prophet is often surly and single-minded, but honorable and quick-witted.
Lola holds her own and Brandvold write the West with authority and detail.
Western fans won't be disappointed.-----...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Talented Writer, July 15, 2004
This review is from: The Devil and Lou Prophet (Lou Prophet, Bounty Hunter) (Paperback)
Westerns should be more than simple 'Aw, shucks! Shoot-em ups' and Brandvold takes them into a more believeable realm with true-to-life characters, well written action sequences, and an accuracy of someone who well understands that real life cowboys and western figures were rugged, salty, and as tough as they had to be.
Brandvold knows his territory, weapons, and craft and like Elmore Leonard's westerns his books too provide more than just surface stories and settings.
I found his books by accident and because they're such good entertainment I'll remember them on purpose.
Now scractch yourself, spit, and and say $%#&*, like a real cowboy woulda done and enjoy the book!
