So, here we are with another Devil May Cry novel, pertaining to the time period between the first and second games in the series. I had some high expectations for this one seeing as the first in the series, taking place before the first and the third in the game series (confusing, I know) was actually pretty good. This one, however, just didn't live up to what I was hoping.

Granted, if you're looking for another quick story involving everyone's favorite half-demon devil hunter Dante, you'll probably enjoy this one. It's got action, it's got plenty of devastating demon dismemberment (try saying that three times fast) and it's got a new female sidekick that has been created for the novel (which was probably one of the only real good aspects of the book).

However, the main problem with this one is that the writer didn't seem to be too enthuised with the project himself. The book hints at plenty of epic fights but the writer only glances over them, never really going into any detail whatsoever about them. It would have been fairly easy for him to trim them out if he wanted and keep the main story going but, instead, he hints at them and never gives the reader the payoff of some epic description of the battles. Granted, this is translated from Japanese text but at least in the first of this book series, we got a fair amount of pretty decent battles to read about involving Dante and his disguised brother.

All in all, DMC 2 is a quick read with some cool artwork, cool characters and some really lacking fight scenes. If you're a fan of the series and you have to own everything baring Devil May Cry, pick it up. But if you want some enlightenment on Dante or a worthy book to the dynamic action of the game series (or anime series, for that matter) this ain't it.

Excellent book, as was Vol. 1. The storyline is interesting, and kept me engrossed. Received in perfect condition, and quick and easy transaction.

Yet another piece of the DMC universe for us fans. This novel gives us some in sight to what was going on with Dante before the the game. It provides some clarity with DMC2 for me.

It was a good read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My only complaint is that it was a little short.

Wielding a giant sword and two custom-tailored guns, Devil Hunter Dante is nicknamed "Devil May Cry" because he shows no mercy to demons. One day, a woman named Beryl appears out of the blue, wishing to hire Dante's unique services. She wants him to locate an evil idol known as the Beastheads - the statue somehow connected to Dante's mysterious past.. In order to defeat his eternal enemy, Dante must solve the case, then stand and fight!
