4.0 out of 5 stars yES it Does have OPPOSING viewpoints, October 29, 2000
This review is from: The Devil: Opposing Viewpoints (Great Mysteries) (Library Binding)
Okay, i tried this book because i wanted to know more about devil worship and stuff, not that i plan to become one- just out of pure curiosity.. in that case it is a good book it has all the info in not a biased way trying to explain how the devil came to exist in ppl's minds how it also has great info about satanists and what they usually believe.. exorcism, movies, experiences, etc. etc. HOWEVER.... as it said "Opposing viewpoints" in the title, it really sticks to its title..mainly the author's like "oh the devil could exist... BUT it could not exist" making it kind of confusing and vague so this book started off great with background info on devil and some "real" stories about devil and exorcising but ended not that greatly w/ making the readers even more confused by self-contradicting himself - although it was good that the book wasn't biased it should have somewhat made conclusion whether devil existed or not, instead of just saying it could exist but not exist. Also, i was expecting some more on cults and what THEY do..out of devil worship Anyway, overall, it gave me general idea about what "devil" is, how scholars think it came to exist, what satanists is and do, etc. It was really helpful as i was reading "Deat Du Jour" by Kathy Reichs... So..if u want to know about devil worship/devil/exorcism in a very broad, general sort of way, this is a good book!
