Book Description

A trap set for the band goes from bad to worse as organist and resident sorcerer Adrian badly bungles his escape spell. Trapped inside Adrian's shadow, the band struggles to orient themselves and escape not only from their pursuing enemies, but from the darker manifestations of Adrian's soul.

And once they do get out from inside their own wizard's tortured mind, they'll still have to deal with the fallen angels that trapped them in the first place.

Devil Sent the Rain is the fourth installment of Rock Band Fights Evil, a pulp fiction serial by D.J. Butler.

Mr. Butler surprises me with his 4th book in the series which follows a very different path. Just as packed with action, but it's a more complicated story; a dark and ribald story, delving into the wizard's past in an obscene house. Near the end of the book I was delighted with an especially clever solution to the Rock Band's seeming cornered position. Again suspense is heightened about another member of the band, and I can't wait to see what develops as the series progresses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesomeness February 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I love reading the series RockBandFightsEvil by Mr. Butler. I didn't care for the setting of this one as much as the others. But he still rocked my socks. Narcoleptic wizards are cool, but reading about them is even cooler and the author made this more than possible. A lot of killing in the first, not so much in the last. That part was enjoyAble. Once again his character description and back story and hooks keep me wanting more. Tis truly a page turner. The cover rocked as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Fun Read January 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The fourth in the Rock Band Fights Evil Series provides another action-packed adventure. Told from the viewpoint of the wizard Adrian, we get a look at his own internal struggles turned into a gruesome reality. I found it a little darker and more emotional than the first three. I am anxious to read the next book and see where the story leads!

4.0 out of 5 stars Maybe the refrain is becoming a little familiar... September 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I wanted to love it supremely, but I only loved it superiorly, mainly because it started with the "something supernatural attacks them at a gig" springboard which is becoming too familiar. But I love that the ending changed the status quo for forthcoming installments.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a ride! July 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As with the other 3 sections of this story, Devil Sent the Rain is another roller coaster. At first there is a little disorientation as the reader has to decide who's head we are traveling in. For Devil Sent the Rain, we are Adrian, the wizard. So we get a full treatment of his abilities and difficulties. Adrian is dealing with a curse. And to get them out of a tight situation, he casts a spell that pulls them all into his own twisted memories. Then he has to find a way to get them all safely out, while leaving the demons that followed them trapped.

As with all of D. J. Butler's writing, this story has a steep curve of orientation, but since this is the fourth story in this cycle, I have become accustomed to switching characters every time. And then we are over the top, and through all the hairpin curves and loopdeloops of a first class roller coaster. Pick this up, it's a doozy.

More About the Author

D.J. Butler wrote a lot of rock songs before he ever completed a decent novel. The only one he ever got paid for was "WalMart Loves You, Anyway," which he sent on CD to the entire WalMart board of directors, and for which he was sent a $25 WalMart Gift Card. He spent the loot with gusto.

Butler writes speculative fiction of all sorts for all ages. For right now, you can read his Rock Band Fights Evil and City of the Saints series, but more is coming soon.
