Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Set in the waning days of 1999 in Los Angeles as fierce Santa Ana winds fuel massive wildfires, Shlian and Reid's second thriller featuring feisty on-air radio host Sammy Greene (after Dead Air) suffers from a lack of credibility. Sammy's estranged father, real estate tycoon Jeffrey Greene, is involved with Neil Prescott, a crooked U.S. congressman, who's plotting with CIA operative Albert Miller to shift the political climate. In particular Neil wants to ensure "the election of a president who favored a much more aggressive approach against the enemies of America and her Saudi brothers," by causing a dirty bomb explosion and toppling buildings through the use of a device called a resonator. A confusing plot, too many coincidences, and an emphasis on Sammy's romantic problems mark this effort as "thriller lite" and of interest mostly to those who are looking for plenty of pluck in their heroines and lots of tugged heartstrings. 3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK November 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
In December of 1999, on the eve of Y2K, the Santa Ana winds are bringing deadly wildfires closer and closer to Los Angles. Progressive late night radio talk show host Sammy Greene is new to LA, having moved from the East Coast. In her quest to draw attention to the forgotten people of the city, she finds herself caught up in a web of murder, terrorist plots, and her own past.

This book had the potential to be a great thriller; however, the author seems to have thrown too many elements found in the thriller genre together. Combined with the jumping between characters and storylines, the book quickly turns into a confusing mishmash of characters and events.

For me, it felt that the author tried too hard to include all the elements into the story. The story is interesting enough, and most of the characters are likeable, but overall the book didn't quiet deliver.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in order to review it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Devil Wind August 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
It is December 1999, and the Y2K phenomenon is upon us. California's Santa Ana winds create devastating fires throughout Los Angeles. The perfect time for a terrorist attack and to hide a murder. This is some of what is going on in Devil Wind. The main character is Sammy Greene, a late-night radio DJ, who gets caught up in the investigation.

There is some action, but I wouldn't say it was a thriller. The characters did not do much for me and the plot was just okay. There is a mish-mash of things going on that at times I was lost.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in order to review it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait. May 18, 2011
Format:Hardcover
After meeting Sammy last year, I have been anxiously looking forward to another of her adventures. "Devil Wind" will not dissapoint you. I was happy to find some familiar characters from the last book incorporated into this story. Sammy has matured and is moving on with her life. That life has taken her across the country where she reunites with people from her distant past, as well as, more recent friends. Of course, once again she finds herself involved in murder, mystery, and conspiracy. Again she comes to the aid of family and friends to prevent disaster. Looking forward to many more adventures and a developing relationship with a very special man in her life.
