One day I was surfing the Amazon in search for some soccer merchandise. I came across this book. The title was intriguing. I read the reviews and thought to myself:"This book cannot be that good". So i ordered it out of curiosity. Today I m writing a review myself because I really want people to read this book. "Devil Worship" is a true journey of a passionate heart through one of the seasons of his favorite soccer club. I m a soccer fan myself. But I got to say I m very picky when it comes to books about soccer. Most of them is just a collection of photos or a list of dry facts and statistics. It hard to find a book written about soccer from such a personal perspective.
Do you like soccer? football? baseball? is there any sport team that you follow? than this book is for you. It is not a book just about soccer. It's a book about love for a team in general. You will be surprised how similar fans' reactions can be towards victories and losses of their favorite team. Personally I was excited to see that there are people who are as passionate about soccer as I am. There is nothing more fun than to find yourself in the author's confessions about the joys of fan's irrational thinking. I surely did.
Despite usual practice, the description of the games is very interesting. The reader sees the game through eyes of the author. Every time Mr. Leyland finds different ways to tell a reader about a game, its main events and emotions he was going through, while watching it, without repeating himself.
I m not a Manchester United fan,I support a different team which had numerous clashes with MU, so in theory there is nothing that i could love about a book. But I was surprised how much I liked it. Mr. Leyland is not blinded by his love towards the club.

I had the pleasure of attending Kevin's book release party today at Brewhouse Cafe in Atlanta. It's no surprise the event coincided with Manchester United's away match at Chelsea. Although the result went in favor of Chelsea, the energy and enthusiasm among Kevin's fellow United supporters never wavered.

As others have mentioned, this book details the trials and tribulations of a Manchester United supporter as he follows his favorite soccer club five time zones away. Kevin recounts, in painstaking detail, the 2008/2009 season on a game-by-game basis. He provides a background on the major players and his analysis and knowledge of the Barclays Premier League is second to none. What truly makes the book enjoyable are the narratives that are weaved to describe just how far he is willing to go to watch each match. Work, college football, vacations, not to mention his use of emerging technologies, really gives the reader a glimpse into the life of a superfan.

I truly believe this is one book that can be enjoyed by both soccer fans and those new to the beautiful game!

A great read! The author provides a unique perspective of a truly devoted Manchester United fan living in the United States. His passion for the team is readily apparent, but what makes the book so enjoyable are his funny stories of the elaborate lengths he must go to in order to follow his team as they play half a world away. Typically this involves: A) getting to a TV with a satellite sports package at the crack-of-dawn, B) hitting refresh over and over again for Internet updates, C) frantic phone calls from friends and relatives. Yet besides being very funny, the author's extensive knowledge of Manchester United and soccer in general come through in his detailed descriptions of the key games of the entire season.

Devil Worship provides a detailed and entertaining account of one fan's journey with his favorite soccer team. This book is well-written and keeps the reader interested. It is a must-read for those who love the ManU Red Devils and are passionate about soccer, but it is also an entertaining read for any avid sports fan. Leyland eloquently describes the emotional highs and lows experienced by any fan who endures the victories and heartbreaks with his favorite team. Leyland holds the reader's interest by integrating entertaining accounts of his surroundings and personal experiences into each chapter. I would highly recommend this book!
