Do you like soccer? football? baseball? is there any sport team that you follow? than this book is for you. It is not a book just about soccer. It's a book about love for a team in general. You will be surprised how similar fans' reactions can be towards victories and losses of their favorite team. Personally I was excited to see that there are people who are as passionate about soccer as I am. There is nothing more fun than to find yourself in the author's confessions about the joys of fan's irrational thinking. I surely did.
Despite usual practice, the description of the games is very interesting. The reader sees the game through eyes of the author. Every time Mr. Leyland finds different ways to tell a reader about a game, its main events and emotions he was going through, while watching it, without repeating himself.
I m not a Manchester United fan,I support a different team which had numerous clashes with MU, so in theory there is nothing that i could love about a book. But I was surprised how much I liked it. Mr. Leyland is not blinded by his love towards the club.Read more ›
As others have mentioned, this book details the trials and tribulations of a Manchester United supporter as he follows his favorite soccer club five time zones away. Kevin recounts, in painstaking detail, the 2008/2009 season on a game-by-game basis. He provides a background on the major players and his analysis and knowledge of the Barclays Premier League is second to none. What truly makes the book enjoyable are the narratives that are weaved to describe just how far he is willing to go to watch each match. Work, college football, vacations, not to mention his use of emerging technologies, really gives the reader a glimpse into the life of a superfan.
I truly believe this is one book that can be enjoyed by both soccer fans and those new to the beautiful game!
