If ur into goth soft rock this album might be for you, but if ur a longtime fan who remembers the heavy guitars and dark sleaze stay well clear, thank god they found their guitars again on Angels, a far superior album!!!

Although this is their seventh studio album it's only the Eyes' first American release. And it's not exactly new- it came out over a year ago in Europe- it was one of 2004's BEST metal CDs (along with Boehse Onkelz' "Adios", Pagan Altar's "lords of Hypocracy" and Rammstein's "Reise Reise"). It's also the second best album they've done (their 2000 effort "Blessed Be" is their masturpiece). If you're tired of the over rated HIM and haven't been able to locate Tenebre, Moonspell or Bloody Mary you should own a 69 Eyes CD.
The Eyes' first album, "Bump N Grind" came out in 1992. They were "trash" punk then- a fussion of the New York Dolls and Motorhead.
As they progressed they got slower and darker- 1999's "Wasting the Dawn" was their first "complete" Goth CD. (For a good quick look at their early sound sniff out the Euro only best-of "Framed In Blood" covering 95 thru 02. That comp is worth it for their Marylin Manson-esque version of Blondie's "call me"!)

5.0 out of 5 stars finally, the 69 eyes have come to america, November 1, 2005

it's a privilidge and honor for anyone to encounter the music of the blessed 69 eyes. their music is amazing, gothic, ethereal, and hard rock at the core. with their background in glam rock/sleaze metal, the helsinki vampires make nothing but true gothic music in the truest rock and roll fashion. this time, the crew comes back with hollywood rock and roll, where everything is glammed out and ready to kick ass. Devils, is the 69 eyes first american debut and their seventh (or 8th, i cannot remember) album back home. with tracks like Devils, Lost Boys, and Feel Berlin, you'll be ready to hit the clutch and switch to 6th gear. riding down the lonely road home at the break of dawn, you'll be willing to rock out to Sister of Charity and Only You Can Save Me. with a nice mixture of scary gothic elements, grandiose keyboards haunting the background, and Jyrki's Peter Steele inspired vocals, everything in this album is damn near perfect.

Gothic Rock (yeah, I'm sticking it here again, deal with it). The 69 Eyes are one of the first things to hit the minds of many familiar with the Finland rock scene when thinking of gothic rock. Low and behold, The 69 Eyes return with another goth-n-roll assault on the gothic scene. Meshing their hard rock/glam rock nature with the gothic melancholia influences to create what is probably the most perfect gothic rock album to come out within this last decade, or am I pushing it? This album combines elements of the hard rocks sounds from "Blessed Be" and the extreme melancholia of "Paris Kills." What gets churned out is an excellent blend of dark, melody rich, rock-n-roll music. "Lost Boys" is such a song of the rock stars, blending Hollywood with Helsinki. Is this double Helix a coincidence, is the fact that H is repetitive fate? Who knows, but "Lost Boys" tells the tale of being a teenage party vampire. Typical of the film by the same name. The first single, "Devils" is very Jyrki style, simple, simlpistic, simple again...not to say it's bad. We focus on the music and his vocals more than anything. "Sister of Charity" is a personal favorite, very reminiscent of a church scene. Perhaps something coming out of an Anne Rice novel? The sound of the song itself is nothing less of gorgeous, remember beauty reigns supreme in art. "Christina Death" is very typical stereo goth girl image. The visions in that song, something Dracula? Something romantic. This album overall is the completion of where The 69 Eyes have been and gone. They emerged as a crazy glam rock band and have now taken the gothic rock scene by storm. This album is purely amazing, with the perfect balance of melodies and rock sound. If this is a sign of things to come, I am already salivating for another album. With a bar such as this set, what else is there for the Helsinki Vampires to do?

5.0 out of 5 stars The 69 Eyes are an AMAZING band!!, October 25, 2005

One of my favorite songs on this CD is the first song I heard from this band on their website "Lost Boys". I just love everything about it. Jyrki's voice, the guitar riffs, the background vocals, the drums! So I listened to this song quite a few times before moving onto the next track "Feel Berlin" which I also enjoy. Female backing vocals are on found on the CD, but not during a live show. I am not usually fond of female backing vocals, but that is just a personal preference and it would not turn me away from this band. However, they do sound pleasing since their voices are the polar opposite of Jyrki's. My favorite tracks on this CD in addition to the two previously mentioned are "Jimmy" "Hevioso" and "Only You Can Save Me". Now, I know I just stated that I do not like female backing vocals, but something about the song "Sister of Charity" just grabs my heart. This song is amazingly beautiful. From the hypnotic voices and music in the intro to Jyrki's vocals throughout. I have always been a fan of metal acts and orchestra's playing together, so maybe that is why I find their music so enjoyable. These guys are fantastic both in the studio and live. Check them out you won't be disappointed!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really, Really Good, but not the best, December 3, 2004
This review is from: Devils (Audio CD)
Alright, let me get this out of the way. The latest effort from the 69 eyes is very, very, very good. The instrumentation is excellent, the vocals are killer as always, and the songs are well written, especially "Feel Berlin", "Lost Boys", and "Hevioso." There, I said it. Now for the fact that Paris Kills blows officialy this out of the water. The songs on Devils, however well written and beautiful, are not nearly as memorable as, say, Crashing High. It seems that some of the tracks could be catagorized as fillers, such as August Moon. Though a good track overall, it is still quite basic, and never really lives up to its potential.
While this album is way more accessible than Wasting the Dawn, I still feel left wanting something more. Don't get me wrong, Devils is in constant rotation in my CD player right now, and I have been listening to it ever since it came almost non-stop, it still can't touch the old Paris Kills magic. Some of you may agree with me, and some may disagree, I leave the choice up to you. I feel that I made an excellent choice by purchacing Devils, and would do it again in a second, just don't go in expecting a miracle.

For anyone that doesn't know this band very well, this is the cd you should pick up first. All of the 69 eyes cds are all catchy but this one is for people just started listening to them. A damn great cd with songs that you'll find youself singing all day long. The song Lost Boys kickass it rocks and its based off a an old movie called Lost Boys. The whole cd is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars If I can buy it as an import, you can all buy it at the low US price!!!, October 25, 2005
This review is from: Devils (Audio CD)
What a phenomenal CD! From the moment I put it in, the songs grabbed me, Jyrki's voice is amazing. I wish I could pick out specific songs, but the entire album should be listened to from beginning to end, each song holds it own musically and shows the versatility this band possesses. This band will take the United States by storm, and it begins today.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new chapter of good music, March 30, 2005
This review is from: Devils (Audio CD)
After first hearing this ablum, you may be tempted to compare it to The 69 Eyes previous cds, especially 'Paris Kills.' However, I don't believe that you can do this honestly. Yes, PK was a fantastic cd but 'Devils' has begun a new chapter for the music of The 69 Eyes and there's no looking back. The cd is absolutely fantastic and is completely different from their previous albums. The songs are beautiful lyrically and the music may be considered softer in that it incorporates more piano and violin. I couldn't tell you the best songs because they're all great. I would recommend this cd to any Eyes fan and anyone else. Wonderful job, guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars Goth/Glamsters "The 69 eyes" turn into rock'n'roll vampires on their groundbreaking "Devils" album., January 3, 2011

"Devils" is the 7th studio album by Finnish glam metal-goth rock band "the 69 eyes" originally released in 2004. "Devils" is the first of two albums grouped as the "Angels/Devils" saga that would be completed with the release of the studio album "Angels" three years later.

One could rightfully consider "Devils" as the ideal mixture of the band's two musical identites; that of a hair metal act during the early 90s and their goth rock style that had dominated their music since the mid 90s. Yes, you could say that this is a 50% glam album and 50% goth album, yet the attentive listener will proably be able to make out that "The 69 eyes" have created a unique rock/metal sound rather than simply mixing half of each genre.

As the booklet and cover artwork suggests, "the 69 eyes" have become considerably more extrovert with this album featuiring a good number or rock star-like group photos and undeniable sleaze metal dressing code. It was at that time that the band would also take a conceptual turn (beyond music and image), now portraying a group of vampire sleaze/goth rockers. For that matter the song "Lost boys" perfectly sets the mood for this conceptual swing, with the inspiration building on the classic 80s vampie movie of the same title (as the band were always keen to celebrate movies and iconic actors through their songs). Other standout tracks include the commanding opener "Devils", the melodic "Feel Berlin", the rocking "Nothing on you" and the romantic/macabre "Christina Death".

Overall "Devils" is the outcome of a band that has managed to balance perfectly their influences and styles while establishing their own sound. "Devils" took the band into a new direction having reinvented their music, style and concept.

After hearing select songs by The 69 Eyes and hearing their name over and over again, I finally decided to purchase "Devils", and I thank myself every day for it! With a similarity to Sisters of Mercy, Jyrki, Jussi, Bazie, Archzie, and Timo-Timo bring a blend of deep rock that is guaranteed to shake you. The vocals are incredible, the choruses are catchy, and the lyrics make you sing in the shower! This is an album to blast out your windows as you drive down the boulevard. Not only that, but if you ever get a chance to catch a show, I HIGHLY recommend it! These Finnish rockers have more energy than any band I've ever seen and are incredible performers!!

If you "wanna rock!", BUY "DEVILS"!!!!!!!!
