3.0 out of 5 stars THE DEVIL'S MIDDLE FINGER
Mr. Ungerman's debut novel caught my interest, but midway through it, I found myself forcing my way through it.
It was weird. William Ungerman is a fantastic writer, and he has the talent to take you to these Texas holes and make you sweat and feel grimy.
I suppose it was kinda the pace and the main characters that all seemed to blend together, making it hard...

5.0 out of 5 stars shoot-em-up magnificent two crime thriller, September 29, 2004
This review is from: The Devil's Finger (Paperback)
Drug lord Esteban Rios runs the border town of Zapata. He controls the police chief, the city council, and the only bank. He builds clinics and playgrounds while running drugs across the border where he owns and operates brothels. His reign of terror extends to the monthly games; these events enable incarcerated Mexican men an improbable chance of freedom if they remain alive long enough. The only institution not controlled by Rios is the church where a priest has just answered an ad in New Breed magazine.

Lon Grainger and Myles Rawlings used to work for Uncle Sam as contract killers, but when the former missed a target the work dried up. They came to Zapata not knowing what is going on, but quickly learn about Rios' stranglehold on the town. They plan to start a mini-war with the objective being to kill Rios and his associates. Rios also prepares for battle because he will never give up his power without a fight.

Fans of action thrillers with plenty of gore will want to read THE DEVIL'S FINGER. At first Lon and Esteban seem like identical twins, but the American mercenary has a social conscience and even tries to keep collateral damage to a minimum while his adversary turns good things into evil and does not worry about innocents. Lon seeks redemption for the accidental death of a child in Zapata he sees the a way to do good. William Ungerman grips the reader's attention with this shoot-em-up magnificent two crime thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action Packed Adventure Novel!, April 30, 2005

Myles Rawlings and Lon Grainger are former Delta Force snipers who have become contract killers. They are in Beirut on a
contract job to assassinate a Middle East terrorist leader. The
shot does not go as planned. All of a sudden the two contract hit
men cannot find work. They decide to answer an add in a military
magazine.
Their new assigment is in Zapata Texas. Here they have to take on a drug lord named Estaban Rios.Rios has an army made up of a
Cuban super sniper,a Santaria witch as well as plenty of hired
goons.Rios is also a sponsor of an event called "the games".
An individual is paid to run for his life to see if he can avoid being shot by hunters who pay for this sport.Rios is the
epitome of evil.
The two contract killers go to war with the forces of Estaban Rios. There is one gun battle after the other. This story could not be told without a showdown between the Cuban super sniper,
Montezuma and American super sniper Lon Grainger. To say the least this is an exciting book that will provide excitement. You
will find this book hard to put down.I can hardly wait for the next William Ungerman book.

This is really a cowboy tale, gunslingers and bad guys and no holds barred. Delta sniper teams are the modern day reference for this much older story. It's been done before, but a tale well told is always appreciated.

5.0 out of 5 stars More books from Ungerman, please., November 7, 2004
This review is from: The Devil's Finger (Paperback)
It is a pleasure to read an author that knows what he is writing about. Too many so called adventure/action books lack knowledge of weapons, procedures and the mind set of those who do this type of activity for real. Mr. Ungerman seems to have some insight into what actually happens in the world. The book was a little slow after the start then it picks up. Thje bad guys are also realisticly portrayed as to how trully evil they can get. This book does not pull any punches about the evil that men do and how best to deal with it. I am waiting for the next book from Mr. Unger and hope it is soon. See the above reviews to find out the story line.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favorite., November 15, 2004

If Ungerman hasn't been there, he know someone who was. The world of Delta and the guys who dwell there are glimpsed through a veil, sanitized for public consumption. In this book they pull their punches so the story won't end in the first hour at Zapata and I could quibble with letting civilians hang out to become innocent victims when the ball drops but hey, we civilized folk may need the stoking of moral outrage to justify the ensuing mayhem. I'm sure the real Grainger and Rawlings would have been better represented by the chapter where the warden's troops took up permanent residence in the abandoned retirement community. I can't wait for another book by Ungerman. I would pre-order if I could. An aside: it would be nice to have a short bio on him at the back of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good read!, December 8, 2011
This review is from: The Devil's Finger (Paperback)
I loved this book. I actually read it a few years ago, and that's how I can tell I liked it is because I still remember it. Some books are so boring that I forget about them soon after reading them. I still remember this book because of the way it started out inside the mind of a sniper and then took me to Texas where it was a shoot out between the good guys and the bad guys. I loved the plot and the way it ended on a surprising note.

AN OUTSTANDING READ ABOUT THE WORLD OF THE SNIPER. MR. UNGERMAN HAS DONE HIS RESEARCH ON THIS TOPIC, FROM FIREARMS TO THE SHOOTERS, NOT TO MENTION THE VILLIANS. I EAGERLY AWAIT ANOTHER BOOK.

He is a pretty solid action writer. The action parts were written well. I would try him out again.
