5.0 out of 5 stars They can do it all!, April 14, 2005
By
Jack Knife (Pittsburgh, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Devil's Food (Audio CD)
This CD exemplifies why this is such a great band. They can do it all. A great collection of rarities, b-sides, and previously fan club only tracks. Whether it's country versions of their older rock tunes, a country version of Lionel Richie's "Sail On", a great rock cover of Outkast's "Hey Ya!", or straight up Supersuckers rock, they are totally believable and great in everything they do. This collection almost works together as a single studio album. I like it better than their last studio album as a matter of fact. Why this band is not huge I don't know. Everyone drops their name, but won't step up to make them big. Probably because people (record industry) think they are just a little too rough for the masses (cursing, drug, alcohol, and killing references, etc.) but just great for me! Talk about staying true to your vision. Hey ya!

5.0 out of 5 stars Devil's Food, it's more than the name for a cake, April 20, 2005
This review is from: Devil's Food (Audio CD)
For "The Greatest Rock-N-Roll Band In The World" it's not a trial to post a review but rather an honor. However, I don't know what can be said, that the 2 previous "Damn Fine" reviews haven't said already, but as I'm here, what the hell.

When the notification for the upcoming release of Devil's Food was posted on their website, I was supremely stoked. Even though I already had or heard all the songs except for "End Of An Era" and "Rubber Bisquit", the thought of having them all conveniently put together on one disc...Audio Ecstasy.
Well the day finally came for it's arrival and let me say, the reality was far better than the perception of it.
You get Rock, both supercharged and a bit less supercharged.(cause 'wimp rock' and Supersuckers don't go together) You get some fun 'Countrified' versions of classics, and even some killer covers. Hey, what's not to love?
So, I don't know if you like the cake which bears the same name, but for those already Supersuckerized or not, this cd of "Rare Treats and Evil Sweets" will have you Rockin' and Shakin' right, as the Supersuckers always do!

P.S. Check out their other available cd's (both studio and live) and the Live In Anaheim DVD, which will show you not only through sound but vision as well, why Mr. Spaghetti and others, claim them to be The Greatest Rock-N-Roll Band In The World.

4.0 out of 5 stars Devilish Delight, April 5, 2005
By
This review is from: Devil's Food (Audio CD)
Reading the liner notes of "Devil's Food" I got to thinking Eddie is referring to people like me. People who have been collecting the vinyl and CD singles for years. Even though I already own most of the stuff on "Devil's Food" this CD is a worthy addition to my Supersuckers collection. For a child of the 70's like me the cover of "Eastbound and Down" is worth the cost of this CD alone. For children of this decade "Hey Ya" will grab their attention. Somehow the The Supersuckers manage to stay surprisingly true to both originals while maintaining the rock n roll nature of the band's traditional style.

"Gato Negro" starts the CD off just right. "Shake it Off" has a chorus made for stadium rock and listening to "Kid's Got it Coming" makes you wonder why these guys aren't there yet.

For a CD designed to be a holdover until the "real" album comes out, this is topnotch. There is something for everyone here...buy it. Even if you think you don't need it.
