They can do it all!,
By Jack Knife (Pittsburgh, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Devil's Food (Audio CD)
This CD exemplifies why this is such a great band. They can do it all. A great collection of rarities, b-sides, and previously fan club only tracks. Whether it's country versions of their older rock tunes, a country version of Lionel Richie's "Sail On", a great rock cover of Outkast's "Hey Ya!", or straight up Supersuckers rock, they are totally believable and great in everything they do. This collection almost works together as a single studio album. I like it better than their last studio album as a matter of fact. Why this band is not huge I don't know. Everyone drops their name, but won't step up to make them big. Probably because people (record industry) think they are just a little too rough for the masses (cursing, drug, alcohol, and killing references, etc.) but just great for me! Talk about staying true to your vision. Hey ya!

Devil's Food, it's more than the name for a cake,
By Tombstone Tim (NYC, USA) - See all my reviews

For "The Greatest Rock-N-Roll Band In The World" it's not a trial to post a review but rather an honor. However, I don't know what can be said, that the 2 previous "Damn Fine" reviews haven't said already, but as I'm here, what the hell.
When the notification for the upcoming release of Devil's Food was posted on their website, I was supremely stoked. Even though I already had or heard all the songs except for "End Of An Era" and "Rubber Bisquit", the thought of having them all conveniently put together on one disc...Audio Ecstasy. Well the day finally came for it's arrival and let me say, the reality was far better than the perception of it. You get Rock, both supercharged and a bit less supercharged.(cause 'wimp rock' and Supersuckers don't go together) You get some fun 'Countrified' versions of classics, and even some killer covers. Hey, what's not to love? So, I don't know if you like the cake which bears the same name, but for those already Supersuckerized or not, this cd of "Rare Treats and Evil Sweets" will have you Rockin' and Shakin' right, as the Supersuckers always do! P.S. Check out their other available cd's (both studio and live) and the Live In Anaheim DVD, which will show you not only through sound but vision as well, why Mr. Spaghetti and others, claim them to be The Greatest Rock-N-Roll Band In The World.

Devilish Delight,
By Bad Kitty (Seattle WA) - See all my reviews

Reading the liner notes of "Devil's Food" I got to thinking Eddie is referring to people like me. People who have been collecting the vinyl and CD singles for years. Even though I already own most of the stuff on "Devil's Food" this CD is a worthy addition to my Supersuckers collection. For a child of the 70's like me the cover of "Eastbound and Down" is worth the cost of this CD alone. For children of this decade "Hey Ya" will grab their attention. Somehow the The Supersuckers manage to stay surprisingly true to both originals while maintaining the rock n roll nature of the band's traditional style.
"Gato Negro" starts the CD off just right. "Shake it Off" has a chorus made for stadium rock and listening to "Kid's Got it Coming" makes you wonder why these guys aren't there yet. For a CD designed to be a holdover until the "real" album comes out, this is topnotch. There is something for everyone here...buy it. Even if you think you don't need it.

The newest $#!& from the Supersuckers,
By Matt Merc (Maryland) - See all my reviews

This collection mixes some classic songs, some older songs redone, and some never before heard songs. Whether you are a new listener, or a die-hard fan, this CD is thoroughly enjoyable.
Although this is not the best work of the Supersuckers, it is a great resource for those interested from hearing the Supersuckers live, or being recommended by a friend. Don't forget to join the official fan club!

How lucky can you get? This album has a collection of tunes that most Supersuckers fans have scoured the globe (and the internet) to obtain! B-sides, rarities, and covers that will have you singin along at the top of your lungs in no time! Would you say that your songs are mainly about liquor, women, drugs, and killing? YES!!!

Greatest Rock Band Ever,

Greatest Rock Band Ever, or so they say at the show. This is a band that is better appreciated live. The power of Rock doesn't quite come thru without the band playing in front of you, standing in a dark bar, holding a cold drink in hand.... It's a great band, but you really need to see them live, do it today.

Wow, this makes it convenient to be a rabid 'suckers collector. I have most of these on those "rare, fan-club only, 7' colored vinyl" versions, but as DK would say, "Give me Convenience, or Give me Death." I love the glow-in-the-dark vinyl I picked up of this release, and I can't recommend it enough for anyone who hasn't heard Jerry Reed, the Commodores, and, yes, Outkast covered by the mighty Supersuckers. A great trip exploring the vast inspirations that motivate Eddie Spaghetti and Co. Please buy this and encourage the Supersuckers to dig further in their vaults and produce a "Devil's Food 2."

Usually im a bit sceptical of comps which are a collection of 'b-sides & rareties' because it often becomes apparent exactly why these tracks were left off albums....
Fortunately theres none of that here. Theres a lot of gems on this album and no real filler. It starts off with the fantastic & blistering Gato Negro but from there the quality doesnt drop off.. Highlights include The Suckers covers of Outkasts 'Hey Ya', Electric Frankensteins "Teenage Shutdown", and plenty of seldom heard rip-roaring originals like "Can Pipe" and "Team Man"..The country fans arent ignored either with the album featuring country versions of the suckers classics "Born With a Tail" and "Doublewide" and a cover of "Eastbound and Down" which is so good it will have you singing along even if your not a country fan. All in all its a damn fine album and makes you wonder what other gems are lurking in the Supersucker Vault.. STB
