The Luck of the Part Irish,
By fredtownward "The Analytical Mind; Have Brain... (Mocksville, North Carolina, United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Devil's Heart (Kindle Edition)
Flynn Donovan has got a life altering decision to make so she is mulling it over in a comfortable (and comforting) environment: an Irish pub in County Down named Devil's Heart. Back in the US she's been singing in dives like this for almost a decade, looking for that elusive big break, trying to escape her past. Patrick Keane, like most bartenders and bar owners, has seen it all and heard it all, but he's never seen or heard anyone quite like this. They're just "two strangers needin' a wee bit of company," nothing more. Soon they'll part and never see each other again so this is only a fantasy,...
right? Ms. Cassidy has given us a delightful little short about two strangers who just want to forget their troubles and have a little commitment-free fun, but hearts, even devils' hearts, are stubborn things. Defects? Nothing major. The surprise twist ending seemed a teensy bit contrived, though upon rereading it was clear that the author hadn't cheated. The clues were there; I just missed them,... as she intended! I'll be seeking out more of Jax Cassidy's work in the future. |
