Review

THE DEVIL'S HIGHWAY: 'March writes in an engaging, easy-to-read style and draws the reader in from the very beginning to her well-spun web of a story... A well-paced, exciting book and I eagerly await the third installment of Fairfax's adventures' Historical Novel Review 'THE COMPLAINT OF THE DOVE has more than a charismatic protagonist. March has created a felicitously realised Georgian mystery, and setting a detective novel in the age of Moll Flanders is a masterstroke... THE DEVIL'S HIGHWAY is equally as exuberant' The Times 'Fairfax is a fine character, both as a detective and as a guide to his age... This series looks like one that's set to run for a while' shots THE COMPLAINT OF THE DOVE: 'A clever and accomplished first novel...witty and convincing; for fans of period dramas such as Moll Flanders and Tom Jones, this will slip down like a cup of sherbet.' Scotland on Sunday 'A gloriously rich tale of London at its grandest and seamiest, well told, at a cracking pace.' Newcastle upon Tyne Evening Chronicle 'Written well with a great deal of self-assurance. I liked the period detail and the characterisation of the large cast of suspects' Deryn Lake, Shots "The Complaint of the Dove has more than a charismatic protagonist. March has created a felicitously realised Georgian mystery, and setting a detective novel in the age of Moll Flanders is a masterstroke" The Times Crime supplement 'THE COMPLAINT OF THE DOVE has more than a charismatic protagonist. I really enjoy books by authors who have the talent to make you feel as if you are actually living the book.

While the main part of this book is a mystery, you can also "see, hear, and smell" the English villages in this book, set in 1761.

If you enjoy English mysteries, definitely buy this book! It's the first book I found by Hannah March and now I will definitely be buying her other books.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written historical mystery!, August 11, 2005
This book is a delightful and interesting window into Georgian England, via an intricately constructed, solid murder mystery. I look forward to reading more books by this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than 'The Complaint of the Dove', June 13, 2006
I liked the first Robert Fairfax mystery by Hannah March, so decided to read the next one. This one was more eloquent and more put-together than the first one. A fair amount of atmosphere and history and well defined characters.
Historical Mystery buffs ought to give this one a try, specially if you like Boris Akunin, Candace Robb, Kate Ross, T.F. Banks or even Ashley Gardner and Marion Chesney, you will most certainly like Ms. March.
