5.0 out of 5 stars Not for the faint of heart!
Wow! I am not a Christian but this was one hell of a book, no pun intended, concerning good and bad...God and the Devil and a persons will to do what they think is right. This book is blunt but depending on who is reading it can be looked at in many ways, I say this as a non-Christian person...and before you wonder, I am NOT a Satanist either. William Johnstone is VERY...

You have to love how Johnstone describes in loving detail all those wretched, kinky sexual acts while trying to sound like he is actually condemning them. And I never knew that the forces of evil were so incredibly well endowed. You aren't fooling me one bit Mr. Johnstone. Each book in the series is almost endearing in its sloppy, simple minded kind of way. So bad its pretty darn good.

This book is blunt but depending on who is reading it can be looked at in many ways, I say this as a non-Christian person...and before you wonder, I am NOT a Satanist either. William Johnstone is VERY blunt in his writing, not something I am very fond of. He really leaves no room for YOUR imagination because he spells everything out for you plain as day. You can be sure to see EVERY detail in this book, and considering some of the events, I'm not sure if that is good or bad. Because of the graphic nature of this book I was unsure if I wanted to pick up the next one...of course I did. I'm not going to recommend this book...nor am I going to tell you NOT to read it. That will be a decision you have to make on your own based on reviews. I will warn you though, I can't stress the graphicness of this book enough, and it may just be the content that makes me say this.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK MAKES YOU CHECK UNDER THE BED!, September 1, 1998

This review is from: Devil's Kiss (The Devil's) (Paperback)
I did not read this book untill after reading the 4th book THE DEVIL'S CAT. i preaty much just came across that book and after reading it i had to get the first one. This book kept me on the edge and made me believe that not only God does exsit but Satan also. I am not a very religous person but this book does make you think how much Satan does affect our lives everyday. I really wish someone would make a movie from this book. if done right it would be a blockbuster. I encouage you to read the three other books after this one. you would not be dissapointted. So keep the lights on, get under the covers, and keep a bible next to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not For Kids, December 2, 2009
This review is from: The Devil's Kiss (Paperback)
I was off sick for a week with the flu. And though I was sick, I was tired of laying around, so I had The Devil's Kiss. Picked it up and within three pages. I knew this was going to be a different read. Trust me from word go this book comes out with pages so hot they should burst into flames while turning them. If you know debauchery then this will even school you, everything from pure evil to a misguided redneck on the side of good. It made me squeamish to read some of the pages. Yet it was so shocking I could not put it down. When I though it was at the peak and the story would work to it's final end. All Hell Breaks Loose. Around page 300 at 3:00 A.M. Out of no where thunder shook my house. Lightening struck behind out home. We had an awful thunderstorm, high winds, heavy rains, and a constant barrage of thunder till around 6:00 AM. I was so spooked, I felt as though from the evil pouring off those pages it was being created outside my room. Needless to say I finished the book, with a quivering soul, a sick feeling in my stomach, and a sense of having been beat with a rod from the Old Testament.
This book has it all, witches, vampires, werewolves, demons, zombies.
It is so graphic I suggest you have nothing around you that looks like meat. This book is not for children. The sex sequences are numerous and very detailed. From incest to homosexual, and bestial acts while the people of this town are overtaken by the power of hell. This is the first book in a series that tends to repeat it's storyline, but the author has such a vivid imagination for serving up a never ending descent into a hell that is enough to scare any person to the altar at a true church.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sensitive readers beware, October 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Devil's Kiss (Paperback)
Devil's Kiss is not for the kids and it's not for easily disturbed readers either. The rape and killing scenes are graphic. However, this is one scary book. I read it when I was 16 and never forgot it.

4.0 out of 5 stars couldn't put it down, August 18, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Devil's Kiss (The Devil's) (Paperback)
It was a very exciting book that kept me on the edge all the time. I was hoping for a movie of it. The was Sam had to die at the end mad it seem there would be a sequal. Fighting a She Devil made it more exciting than most. I kept thinking it was someone else.

2.0 out of 5 stars I have read better, November 7, 1999
This review is from: The Devil's Kiss (Paperback)
This book is ok. There are some entertaining moments but overall it is a mediocre book.

The author uses this book to push his more radical, right wing Christian values. More sadly is that the book bashes gays, equaling them with satanic creatures. In Johnstone's worldview, gays cannot be real Christians.

What is bad about this book is that the character development is flat. We never get to know the characters, nor do we get a chance to watch them develop as the "horror" builds. One of the best things about a good horror novel is that we get to see the characters respond to the horror and go through their inner demons as they battle the evil. There is not much of that here. People either are evil or good. There is no transition.

Want real horror? Try Shirley Jackson, James Herbert, T.E.D. Kline (a rare but worthwhile find), Peter Straub and Robert R. McCammon.

After reading this book the only thought that came to mind was-Run to church now! Mr. Johnstone has set up a story about the age old battle between good and evil, and it does not disappoint! It makes you think about the way you treat your neighbor, co-workers, and that old person who always stops you to talk, it might not make a difference now but someday it will. It is a fast paced enjoyable story that will leave you wanting to find the next book to find out what happens (I'm reading it now!)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Devils Kiss, February 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Devil's Kiss (Paperback)
The devils kiss is one of hundreds that I read. It's also one of the very few books that I couldn't put down once I started reading it. Most books start out kind of boring with the author getting his characters known. This book starts out with action from the start to end. Highly recomend.
